Tyler Herro is returning to Wisconsin after being traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, but not before pausing to reflect on his seven-year run with the Miami Heat. Herro earned All-Star recognition in the 2024-25 season and was originally Miami’s No. 13 pick in the 2019 draft.
Herro, 26, grew up in Greenfield, a Milwaukee suburb, attended Whitnall High School and played AAU ball with the Wisconsin Playground. He decommitted from Wisconsin in high school and ultimately signed with Kentucky.
On social media the guard acknowledged the change of scenery, sharing photos of himself playing in Wisconsin on a secondary Instagram account. He also posted a throwback image with former Heat teammate Jimmy Butler III from the Heat’s run to the 2020 NBA Finals, captioned, “a time was had.” The photo shows Butler smiling in Herro’s jersey while Herro holds the Eastern Conference finals trophy.
Herro and Butler were teammates for five-and-a-half seasons. As a rookie during Miami’s 2020 Finals run, Herro appeared in 21 playoff games and averaged 16.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists, including a 37-point outing in the conference finals.
The Bucks acquired Herro along with Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, three first-round picks (including the No. 13 pick in Tuesday’s draft), one pick swap and a second-round pick from the Heat, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. In return, two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis were sent to Miami. Herro averaged 20.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists this past season.
