UFC 203 Results: Next for Miocic, Werdum, and More!

UFC 203 Results

If you haven’t checked up on the UFC 203 results, look no further. Last night provided a very entertaining night of fights. The heavyweight title was successfully defended along with other noteworthy performances. Let’s take a look at what we can expect next for some of the key UFC 203 fighters.

Next for Stipe Miocic?

UFC 203 results had Stipe Miocic knocking out Alistair Overeem in the first round. The champion was blasted by a left straight early on, and caught in a tight guillotine. Miocic fought through it, pressured his opponent, and eventually knocked him out with ground and pound. It was a chaotic main event, but a huge victory for Stipe Miocic. Everyone should be excited to see who he fights next.

After the UFC 203 results we just had last night, I think Cain Velasquez is the obvious choice. Velasquez put a dominant performance at UFC 200 when he knocked out Travis Browne. Before that, Velasquez was a long-time title holder. Outside of Velasquez, you have Junior dos Santos and Fabricio Werdum as possible title challengers.

JDS holds a decision victory over Miocic. That gives him some leverage, but he was just knocked out by Alistair Overeem last year. Since that loss, dos Santos earned a dominant decision win over Ben Rothwell.

Fabricio Werdum also fought last night as he racked up another win over Travis Browne. In doing so, Werdum showed some aggressive striking and flashy maneuvers. It was a dominant win, and puts him back in the talks after being stopped by Miocic in Brazil. Unfortunately for Werdum, I think a match up between him and Josh Barnett should be required of him before he fights for the belt again.

Cain Velasquez gets my clear pick as being the next contender for Stipe Miocic’s heavyweight belt.

Next for Mickey Gall?

Also featured on the main card was the anticipated MMA debut of CM Punk which ended very poorly for the WWE superstar. Gall wasted little time flooring Punk, smashing him with punches, and wrapping up a rear-naked choke for the first round tap. This win gives Mickey Gall some interesting momentum as now people know his name.

After defeating CM Punk, Gall took the opportunity to call out Sage Northcutt. Both fighters were featured on Dana White’s “Looking for a Fight”, and are hyped up youngsters at welterweight.

I don’t think it’s smart to pitch prospect vs prospect, but this might be an exception. A loss for either man doesn’t set them back too far because of how inexperienced both are. I think the UFC should be conservative though and maybe build Gall up with someone like Vincent Luque, Max Griffin, or perhaps a UFC newcomer.

Next for Jimmie Rivera?

Bantamweight prospect, Jimmie Rivera, notched the biggest win of his career as he beat title challenger and MMA veteran Urijah Faber. It was a fight that was fairly disappointing if you’re a Faber fan as he looked sluggish, tentative, and quite dull. Rivera on the other hand looked very powerful as he battered Faber on the feet. The bantamweight division is filling up with hot prospects, so who will be next for this newest addition to the bantamweight elite.

One can expect Rivera to move into the top 5 as Faber sat at #2. As far as a next opponent goes, I’d like to see a match up between him and Bryan Caraway. The winner could very well be next in line for the title, but a lot depends on how the UFC handles Cody Garbrandt, and the winner of John Dodson vs John Lineker. 135 lbs is turning into quite the stacked division, so definitely stay tuned to it.

Next for Jessica Andrade?

Brazil’s Jessica Andrade picked up the first-round submission victory over Joanne Calderwood to open the PPV card. Andrade is now 2-0 since dropping down to strawweight, and should break into the top 5 in the division. She reminds me a lot of Claudia Gadelha based on her physical strength, suffocating top game, and violent ground-and-pound. I’m not sure if the two would fight each other, but that’s a match up I’d like to see. If not,  Rose Namajunas would be a high-stakes fight as Rose is looking to get back into title talks.

That’s all for UFC 203 results and future opponents. If you would like more, leave a comment below to show your support, and share this using the social media tabs above. Thank you for reading!
