The third fight on the UFC 224 main card in Rio de Janiero, Brazi, is the womens matchup of Amanda Cooper vs. Mackenzie Dern . We finally have a full card that hasn’t been torn apart by injuries, suspensions, or Connor McGregor, and we’ll also get to see a legacy fight between Kelvin Gastelum and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.

TUF 23 finalist Amanda Cooper looks to win consecutive fights for the first time in her career as she takes on Mackenzie Dern. Cooper is coming off of her first career knockout win against Angela Magana. That came on the heels of a loss to Cynthia Calvillo at UFC 209. Cooper lost to Tatiana Suarez at the TUF 23 Finale in the first round. It is a bit of a surprise that she draws a matchup on the main card here, but the 26-year-old has had some exciting fights to date. This is her first time fighting in the Southern Hemisphere and just the second time outside of the US, so we’ll see how that affects her..
Mackenzie Dern (-250)
Mackenzie Dern is 6-0 in her pro career with three submission wins and three decision victories. Dern had some issues with Ashley Yoder in her UFC debut, as that fight needed 15 minutes for the judges to give a slight edge to Dern. That split-decision debut didn’t inspire a ton of confidence, but she was dominant in LFA and LFC and looked good in her one and only Invicta fight. Dern is an international champ in grappling and jiu jitsu, so she is a very accomplished fighter.
Pick: Mackenzie Dern
With her bloodline, Dern should be fast-tracked to the top of this division, as she is the daughter of a grappling champ and a black belt. She’s relatively new to MMA, but she should be on the rise very quickly and Amanda Cooper should be another springboard type of opponent for her.
