UFC Fight Night 102 Odds Review

UFC Fight Night 102 Odds Review – The UFC is in Albany, New York this Friday night with the Fight Night 102 event headlined by heavyweights Derrick Lewis and Shamil Abdurakhimov.

Both Lewis (16-4) and Abdurakhimov (17-3) are experienced guys who have put together winning streaks in the UFC. Lewis has won four in a row, including a split decision win over Roy Nelson in his last fight. Abdurakhimov lost his UFC debut, but he has won two fights since then, including a split decision nod over Walt Harris in his last outing. One thing to note here is that both men are stepping into their first main event, five-round fight and traditionally among the big boys, this could lead to an agonizingly slow match if it extends itself.

The co-feature also comes in the heavyweight division as Francis Ngannou (8-1) faces Anthony Hamilton (15-5). Ngannou is the fighter considered to have more potential, as he has gone a perfect 3-0 in the UFC with all wins coming by way of stoppage. Hamilton has been with the UFC for two-and-a-half years and he has alternated wins and losses since coming aboard, going 3-3 in the process. Hamilton went 1-1 in 2016 thus far, losing to main event fighter Abdurakhimov in February before grabbing a fourteen second KO win over Damian Grabowski this past July.

Lightheavyweight action sees 14-7 Gian Villante taking on undefeated Saprbek Safarov, who is 8-0. Villante has paid his dues in MMA, rising from the local scene in the northeast to Strikeforce and then on to the UFC, where he has been on the roster for more than three-and-a-half years already. In that time, Villante has gone a nondescript 4-4, and he is coming off a loss back in March when he dropped a unanimous decision to Sweden’s Ilir Latifi. Safarov is making his UFC debut, having fought his first 8 matches in Russia representing the experienced Legion Fight Team.

More lightheavyweight action sees 8-2 Corey Anderson facing off against Sean O’Connell, who brings a 17-8 overall record into the match. O’Connell is 2-4 in the UFC and likely on the verge of being cut. In Anderson, the UFC is looking to see what they have, as he is returning to action after a May split decision loss to a faded Mauricio Rua that many observers thought Anderson won.
