UFC Fight Night 109 Main Event Odds For Sunday

UFC Fight Night 109 Main Event Odds for Sunday – The UFC is in Stockholm, Sweden this Sunday, May 28th with Fight Night 109 at the Ericksson Globe Arena. The card is headlined by a pair of longtime contenders as Alexander Gustafsson (17-4) faces off against Glover Teixiera (26-5) in a fight of both men looking to earn another shot at the title.

Gustafsson is headlining his hometown, but that has proven to be a challenge in the past. In January of 2015 Gustafsson took a fight with hard-hitting contender Anthony Johnson in Stockholm as a precursor to a rematch for Gustafsson with UFC champion Jon Jones but Johnson ended things quickly. He knocked out “The Mauler” at just 2:15 of the first round. Gustafsson took time off after that loss and came back 10 months later to take another loss, this time to Daniel Cormier and that win sent Gustafsson to the back of the line in the weight class. After another layoff of close to a year, he came back in September of 2016 to score a win over Jan Blachowicz and he needs to beat Teixeira to start a small winning streak. He is still the most famous MMA artist in Sweden and he is still a draw but at this point he does need to start winning again.

Teixeira too is trying to put a whitewash against Anthony Johnson behind him, as Teixeira lasted just 13 seconds against the powerful Johnson. He won a February of 2017 outing against Jared Cannonier, but at 37 years of age Teixeira sees his window of opportunity closing as a top level light heavyweight. Nevertheless, he has gone 4-1 in his last five fights and there is little shame in losing to the rugged Johnson, ho has since retired and freed up a top spot in the rankings.

The co-feature also comes at light heavyweight and features Misha Cirkunov (13-2) taking on Volkan Oezdemir (13-1). Cirkunov has carried the “prospect” label since the mid-2000’s and he is still just 30 years old. Living and fighting out of Canada for most of his early career, Cirkunov has quietly gone 4-0 in the UFC while Oezdemir impressed by defeating veteran Ovince St Preux in his UFC debut. Fans may remember Oezdemir for a short Bellator run back in late 2013 – early 2014 where he went 1-1 overall.

Veteran welterweight Ben Saunders (21-7-2) is back to face rugged Geramn Peter Sobotta (16-5-1). Saunders is 5-1 in his last six fights and needs a win to keep momentum while Sobotta is looking to go 4-1 in his latest UFC run. Sobotta had a UFC run back in 2009-201 that saw him go 0-3 so he is hoping this second run is the one where he sticks. Sunders is a tough out for anyone and this fight has one of the closest lines on the show.
