UFC Fight Night 122 Odds For Saturday

UFC Fight Night 122

UFC Fight Night 122 Odds For Saturday – The UFC is in China this weekend with Fight Night 122. The entire card is set to air on the UFC Fight Pass service and the card is headlined by Michael Bisping versus Kelvin Gastelum.

The big story here is Michael Bisping, who entered the month of November as the UFC’s middleweight champion. On November 4th, Bisping faced all-time great Georges St Pierre and he lost his title. What is more, he got beat up, bloodied and submitted so it is a bit of a surprise to see him back on three weeks notice.

The late replacement was made necessary by a positive drug test by Anderson Silva. Silva, the former champion who many considered the greatest MMA fighter of the modern era, has done irreversible damage to his legacy. Back when he was in his heyday the UFC signed him to a lifetime contract which would see him fight into his 40’s. Since then, losses and positive drug tests have tarnished his name value. Though headlining in China is exotic, Silva is far from the “superfights” he may have thought he was going to be fighting. Gastelum could be on the cusp of a title shot and Silva was serving as a doorman. That is how far his star had fallen, and it will be further faded after another positive drug test.

All that makes what Bisping is doing here all the more special. After the loss to St Pierre, you could forgive Bisping if he took a vacation. Bisping is 38 years old and he has 38 professional fights so it would have been perfectly normal for him to head to the beach and wait for a call from the UFC next spring. Instead he puicked up the phone and said “I am in.” Win or lose, he will get a lot of points for bravado. He will enter the fight an underdog.

The talented Gastelum is in need of a win here. He is coming off a loss to Chris Weidman where he was submitted and his presence as a middleweight has always come with an asterix. Gastelum won the UFC’s “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show at  middleweight but he made several attempts at competing in the 170 pound welterweight division. He struggled to make the weight and he has been at middleweight since. His loss to Weidman may be a signal that Gastelum is going to have trouble against the bigger middleweights.

Gastelum will likely have to do more than just beat Bisping to earn a title shot but as an undersized middleweight, he would be a competitive physical match-up for St Pierre, who now carries the 185 pound belt after competinghis whole career at 170 pounds. Fighting St Pierre could wind up being the reward forthis Saturday’s winner.

Below are the odds for Bisping-Gastelum and for several of the feature fights in support of the main event.
