Major League Baseball rosters are always in motion, and a clear look at each club’s depth chart helps fans follow how teams are constructed as the season approaches and unfolds. Across all 30 MLB teams, depth charts organize players by position and role, providing an at-a-glance picture of who is expected to start, who is available off the bench, and how pitching staffs are structured. For position players, depth charts typically begin with the projected starter at each defensive spot: catcher, first base, second base, third base, shortstop and the three outfield positions, along with the designated hitter in leagues and situations where it is used. Behind those projected starters are the primary backups, who can step into the lineup due to rest, performance changes or injuries. Many clubs also list additional reserves and utility players whose versatility allows them to cover multiple positions, an increasingly valuable trait in modern roster building. In the outfield, depth charts often distinguish between left, center and right field, while still recognizing that certain players may move among those spots depending on matchups, ballpark dimensions or team strategy. In the infield, some players are shown at more than one position, such as a corner infielder who can play both first and third base, or a middle infielder capable of handling both second base and shortstop. On the pitching side, depth charts break down teams into starting rotations and bullpens. The rotation section lists the pitchers expected to take regular turns as starters, generally ranked in order, though actual game assignments can change because of rest patterns, opponent considerations or scheduling quirks. The bullpen portion describes the relievers available in various roles, including late-inning options and multi-inning arms. Depth charts can also highlight which pitchers are candidates to move between starting and relief duty as needs evolve. These charts are updated as transactions occur, including trades, free-agent signings, minor league promotions, designations for assignment and injured list moves. As a result, a team’s depth chart is a living snapshot rather than a fixed document, reflecting the current composition of the active roster and, in some cases, players on the 40-man roster or close to a call-up. For fans, consulting the latest depth charts for all 30 MLB teams offers a broad overview of how clubs are structured position by position, how playing time might be distributed and where organizations have accumulated notable depth or face thin spots. Whether following a favorite team or tracking the league as a whole, these charts serve as a central reference for understanding how managers may construct lineups and deploy pitching staffs throughout the long MLB season.
