Updated Odds To Win 2018 Masters Tournament Released Following Round 1

The Masters 2018

We’re one round through the 2018 Masters Tournament and we now have a much clearer picture of who will compete for the win. After an opening round -6 (66), Jordan Spieth has moved into the role as the clear-cut favorite. Both him and Rory McIlroy were among the favorites entering the tournament but the updated odds at BetDSI Sportsbook show that both are now clearly ahead of the pack.

With Spieth’s -6 in the opening round, he has now moved up to +180 to win the tournament, which makes him a sizable favorite. That makes sense as only Tony Finau and Matt Kuchar are within two strokes of the lead. Seven golfers – including McIlroy – are three shots off the lead at -3.

Finau has been an incredible story so far as he actually dislocated his ankle in the Par 3 contest on Wednesday. While some thought that would force him to miss the tournament, that was not the case. He showed no ill effects of the injury on Thursday, shooting an opening round -4 (68). He has now moved up to +1800 to win the Masters. As for Kuchar, his strong round has boosted him up to +1200.

The biggest disappointment of the day had to be defending champion Sergio Garcia, who show an ugly +9 (81). Any chances he had of contending have been thrown out the window. As for Tiger Woods, he was a big storyline going in but all he could muster was a +1 (73), which puts him in a tie for 29th. At one point, he was the favorite to win The Masters. Taking a look at the updated odds, he’s now at +5000, which makes him a sizable longshot. Dustin Johnson is another golfer who was among the favorites going in but is now a stretch to make a run. While he’s No. 1 in the PGA rankings, he’s now at +4000 to win the event. The No. 2 player in the world rankings, Justin Thomas, is also now a long shot. Some thought this could be his coming out party but he’s now at +6000 to win after a +2 (74). Like Woods and Johnson, he’s going to have to play virtually perfect golf the rest of the way to close the gap and push for a win.
