As the MLB offseason progresses toward spring training, a number of high-profile free agents and unresolved trade scenarios continue to shape the baseball landscape. While many teams have already made significant moves, others remain in pursuit of roster improvements. Based on current trends and team needs, several potential developments could unfold over the coming weeks.

One key area to monitor is the starting pitching market. Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers and Framber Valdez of the Houston Astros have drawn significant interest due to their track records and team-friendly control. Though neither pitcher has officially been placed on the trade block, front office decisions involving long-term planning and roster depth could prompt discussions. Teams in need of front-line starters, especially those competing in tight divisional races, may explore trade opportunities involving prospect packages.

The Boston Red Sox have been linked to various possibilities, reflecting their desire to move aggressively back into contention. The front office has signaled it may be open to adding both pitching and offensive depth. Depending on how the rest of the market evolves, Boston could become active in late-winter trades or remaining free agent signings.

Across town, the New York Mets face a turning point. After a 2025 campaign that fell short of expectations, new management has been tasked with fortifying the roster. Target areas include multi-inning relievers and a right-handed power bat—needs that could be addressed by exploring options from both domestic free agents and available international players.

The New York Yankees, meanwhile, appear positioned to continue reinforcing their lineup. Already active earlier in the offseason, they may still aim to boost their infield depth or add another left-handed bat. Given the franchise’s expectations for postseason success, further activity cannot be ruled out.

Although most marquee free agents have signed, a handful of notable players remain on the market. How team executives navigate contract flexibility and organizational goals will influence their decisions in the remaining weeks before pitchers and catchers report. As rosters take shape, the final phase of the MLB offseason promises continued intrigue and strategic maneuvering.
