USC Men’s Water Polo wins the MPSF championship to earn an 18th consecutive NCAA ticket

With today’s 14-10 victory against Stanford in the MPSF Championship game, the No. 3 USC men’s water polo team secured an 18th straight NCAA bid and never trailed in the 2022 MPSF Tournament. The Trojans earned their first MPSF tournament championship since 2017 and their first under head coach Marko Pintaric. USC will enter the NCAA Tournament with an 18-6 record after going 7-0 on its home waters at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center this season.

In the second half, USC’s 12th MPSF Tournament victory started to take form. Four times in the first half, Stanford got the Trojans within one, but USC opened up some room with back-to-back goals. Midway through the second, Jake Ehrhardt faked and swished to give USC a 6-4 lead. A minute later, Ashworth Molthen swished from a distance to give USC a 7-4 lead. The Cardinal would get no closer than 7-5 the rest of the way thanks to Stanford’s second 5-meter penalty stroke of the period.
