The United States men’s national team enters the 2026 FIFA World Cup as an automatic qualifier and one of three hosts alongside Canada and Mexico, according to the source. The tournament runs from June 11 to July 19 and will feature 48 teams, expanded from the previous 32-team format.

Led by coach Mauricio Pochettino and AC Milan midfielder Christian Pulisic, the 26-player USMNT will compete in Group D with Paraguay, Australia and Türkiye, according to the source. The team is aiming to reach the quarterfinals for the first time since 2002.

Across its World Cup history the U.S. has qualified 12 times (1930, 1934, 1950, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2022 and 2026) and has been host twice (1994 and 2026), according to the source. The program’s best finish came in the inaugural 1930 tournament when the U.S. finished third after a 6-1 semifinal loss to Argentina.

All-time World Cup statistics for the U.S. include a 9-8-20 record (wins-losses-draws), 40 goals scored, 66 goals conceded and a goal differential of minus-26, according to the source. Landon Donovan holds the team records for most World Cup appearances (12, across 2002, 2006 and 2010) and most tournament goals (five), while Bert Patenaude scored four goals in the 1930 World Cup, the most by an American at a single tournament.

Recent World Cup results highlight varying outcomes: the U.S. reached the 2022 Round of 16 (a 3-1 loss to the Netherlands), failed to qualify in 2018, and reached the Round of 16 in 2010 and 2014, both ending in extra-time losses, according to the source. The 2026 roster includes Brenden Aaronson, Tyler Adams, Folarin Balogun, Ricardo Pepi, Weston McKennie, Gio Reyna, Tim Ream, Miles Robinson, Matt Turner and Christian Pulisic, with Mauricio Pochettino listed as coach, according to the source.
