Vegas Boxing Odds Friday

Vegas Boxing Odds Friday – This coming Friday, September 16th the Premier Boxing Champions are at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada for a boxing card promoted by Leonard Ellerbe and “The Money Team” that sees the featured fights airing on Bounce TV in the United States.

The main event comes at super welterweight and features former world titleholder Ishe Smith (28-8) as he takes on the challenge of Frank Galarza (17-1-2). Smith is a hard-working fighter who won the IBF world title at 154 pounds back in February of 2013 when he defeated Cornelius “K-9” Bundrage. Unfortunately for Smith, he dropped the belt in his next outing against Carlos Molina, and he has been alternating wins and losses ever since. In his last fight, he won a wide unanimous decision over Tommy Rainone in a fight where he won every round on every judges scorecard. At 38 years old, Smith needs to string together a few wins in a row to get his name back to relevancy.

As for the 31-year-old Galarza, he too is in need of a win. In his last fight in November of 2015 he was stopped in the six round by Jarrett Hurd in a fight that broke an eight-fight winning streak for Galarza. Galarza does not have Smith’s experience as his loss came in the first fight that he had scheduled beyond eight rounds. This fight is a big step up in competition for Galarza.

The other fight on the card getting the line sees 28-1 super lightweight Sharif Bogere as a major favorite when he faces Luis Eduardo Florez of Colombia (21-4). Bogere was undefeated in March of 2013 when he faced off against Richar Abril for the WBA world title at lightweight, and he performed reasonably well in taking a unanimous decision loss. Since then he has put in the work, fighting six times and going 5-0 with one no contest. At 27 years old, he is heading into his prime and should log a win this weekend as he looks for a title fight. In Florez, you get a veteran fighter who has gone 0-2 in 2016 fighting in the United States against a heightened level of competition and unfortunately for him, Bogere is a fight that fits that same description. He does possess KO power, as he has stopped opponents in 17 of his 21 wins. Perhaps the over/under is listed sometime after the weigh-ins go down on Thursday.
