With Games 3 and 4 of the NBA Finals taking place in New York City, several local institutions extended invitations to San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama while the series is in town.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani invited Wembanyama to attend a New York City Commission on Government Efficiency hearing scheduled for June 10. The hearing is set for 5 to 8 p.m. at Fordham University in the Bronx and would conclude about 30 minutes before Game 4’s scheduled tipoff in Manhattan, a trip that would require several stops on the B train.
The day before the mayor’s invitation, Film at Lincoln Center posted on social media offering tickets to a Sunday screening of the film “1900,” a showing that runs about five-and-a-half hours. The post said the offer would apply while Wembanyama was in town for “a work-related trip.”
Wembanyama averaged 27.3 points, 10.9 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game in the Western Conference finals. At 7-foot-4, the center figures prominently in the Spurs’ pursuit of the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
Game 3 will tip off at Madison Square Garden on Monday night at 8:30 p.m., according to ESPN. Game 4 is scheduled for the same time on Wednesday, when the earlier hearing would have just concluded.
