Volunteers Of America Texas Shootout Preview

After one week off, the LPGA Tour shifts to Irving, Texas and the Las Colinas Country Club for this week’s Volunteers Of America Texas Shootout. This will be the fifth edition of this event with an absolutely loaded field expected once again this week. A hot start will be crucial to success at a tournament that lives up to its title. The world’s top-20 players will all compete in this week’s event. If history is any indication, it will be worth keeping a close eye on Inbee Park as she looks to continue her cycle of winning this tournament in odds years.

Event Details

Event: Volunteers Of America Texas Shootout

Category: LPGA

Date: April 27-30

Location: Las Colinas Country Club, Irving, Texas

Park won the inaugural edition of this tournament back in 2013. She followed up that victory with another in 2015. It should be no surprise that she is the sports betting favorite to win this event outright but she will have some tough competition. The structure of this event will also put a lot of pressure on the field at the Volunteers Of America Texas Shootout. Two cuts will be made with one after 36 holes and the other after 54 holes. Only the top-50 players will be alive heading in to the final round of action on Sunday. It won’t be a surprise if Park is among them.

Past Five Winners

2016: Jenny Shin -14

2015: Inbee Park -15

2014: Stacy Lewis -16

2013: Inbee Park -13

What To Know About The Course

The fact that each of the four winners at this event have finished with a score of 13-under par or better indicates we could see another birdie-fest at the Volunteers Of America Texas Shootout this week. Each of the last three winners have won by at least two strokes so it will be interesting to see how close of a finish we see this weekend. Greens In Regulation will be an important statistic to consider at the Las Colinas Country Club course but it isn’t the only number worth tracking. Keep an eye out for Putting statistics as those that capitalize on their opportunities from the greens should be able to remain in contention through Sunday.

The Field

Park will enter this week’s tournament as the sports betting favorite to win outright at +800 odds. She will have some tough competition with the entire top-20 in this week’s field. In Gee Chun is listed at +900 odds to win this event outright followed by Ariya Jutanugarn at +1100 odds and So Yeon Ryu at +1200 odds. Lydia Ko will look to celebrate her 20th birthday with a win at the Volunteers Of America Texas Shootout. Ko is listed at +1600 odds to capture a victory in Texas this weekend.

A Good Matchup To Bet: Inbee Park over Ariya Jutanugarn

There will be a lot of talk about Park’s potential heading in to this week and rightfully so. Park has absolutely dominated at this tournament in the past and she is on fire heading in to this event. Park has placed in the top-25 in each of her six starts this season including a win at the HSBC Women’s Champions and a third place finish at the ANA Inspiration. While it’s hard to find value betting Park this week she does have decent odds in the head-to-head sports betting matchup with Jutanugarn. Jutanugarn has been very consistent this year but that could mean a small regression at this week’s tournament. We only need a small window for Park to finish ahead of Jutanugarn so it should be worth the risk betting against her here. All things considered, we are very comfortable betting Park to finish ahead of Jutanugarn at this week’s event.

Top-Five Pick: Lydia Ko

Ko will shake things up heading in to this week’s tournament. She will have a new caddie on her bag after reportedly hiring Pete Godfrey after she parted ways with Gary Matthews following the LOTTE Championship a couple of weeks ago. She will also be refreshed and focused in what will be her first start in Texas since 2015 when she finished outside of the top-40. After dominating the last two years, Ko’s slow start to the year has been somewhat puzzling. However, with a new caddy and a new approach we expect a strong performance from Ko at the Volunteers Of America Texas Shootout this week.
