The Golden State Warriors have officially signed guard Pat Spencer to a standard contract for the remainder of the 2025–26 NBA season. The move comes after Spencer initially joined the team on a two-way deal, allowing Golden State to evaluate his performance and fit within the team’s system.
Spencer, 28, has shown promise during his time with Golden State’s G League affiliate, demonstrating solid playmaking and defensive skills. His performance evidently earned the trust of the Warriors’ coaching staff and front office, leading to the elevation of his contract to a full-season deal.
Originally known for an outstanding collegiate lacrosse career at Loyola Maryland, where he won the prestigious Tewaaraton Award in 2019, Spencer transitioned to basketball and played a graduate season at Northwestern University. Despite limited exposure on the hardwood compared to most professional players, his athleticism and competitive drive have helped him forge a path into the NBA.
Spencer has spent time developing his game in the G League and during practice with Golden State. Though playing time with the Warriors’ main roster has been limited so far, he has been noted for his work ethic and team-oriented approach. Standing at 6-foot-3, he provides the Warriors with added depth in the backcourt, particularly on the defensive end and in secondary ball-handling situations.
This signing fills one of the team’s available standard roster spots as Golden State looks to solidify its bench ahead of the playoff race. With the Western Conference standings continuing to tighten, the Warriors are focusing on roster stability and internal development.
As the season progresses, Spencer may have opportunities to contribute more directly on the court, but even if his role remains limited, his presence is viewed as a positive within the organization. Golden State has not yet disclosed terms of the contract.
The Warriors continue their regular season schedule with a focus on building momentum and cohesion among both veteran and younger players, and Spencer’s continued development will be one of several storylines to monitor.
