Week 3 Free Betting Preview – Los Angeles Chargers vs. Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Chargers (+7) aren’t traveling far to face the Los Angeles Rams at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. CBS is scheduled to have the TV rights and the opening kickoff is pegged for 4:05 p.m. ET.

In this Sunday game, the Rams are being tabbed as the favorites and are currently giving up 7 points. The Chargers are also receiving +220 moneyline odds while the Rams are -260. There will likely be some solid live betting scenarios in this match, and oddsmakers have placed the over/under (O/U) at 48 points.

The Bolts are coming off a resounding 31-20 win over Buffalo last week. Philip Rivers completed 23 passes on 27 attempts for 256 yards and three touchdowns. Austin Ekeler (77 rushing yards on 11 attempts) led the running attack while Keenan Allen (six receptions, 67 yards) and Gordon III (six catches, 38 yards, two TDs) manned the receiving duties in the win.

The Rams are coming off of a 34-0 win over Arizona in Week 2. The defense did its duty in the victory, holding the Cardinals to only 90 passing yards and 54 yards on the ground. David Johnson had a productive showing in the loss for Arizona, recording 48 rushing yards on 13 attempts. For Los Angeles, Jared Goff completed 24-of-32 passes for 354 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Todd Gurley II (42 rushing yards on 19 attempts, three TDs) and Malcolm Brown (46 yards on 12 carries) handled the running game as Brandin Cooks (seven receptions, 159 yards) and Robert Woods (six catches, 81 yards) led the receiving attack in the win.

Los Angeles has run the ball on 38.1 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Los Angeles has a rush percentage of 47.6 percent. The Chargers have rushed for 116 yards per game and have just a single score on the ground this year. The Rams are averaging 115 rush yards per game and have three total rushing TDs.

The Bolts offense have averaged an astonishing 340 yards in the air overall and have six passing TD so far. The Rams have produced 294 pass yards per game and have three total pass scores.

the Chargers have let opponents run for an average of 95 yards and pass for 251 yards per game. The Los Angeles defense has allowed 196.5 yards per game to opposing passers and 74.5 yards per game to opposing runners. The Rams are giving up an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of just 2.94 to opposing QBs, while the Chargers have allowed a 7.20 ANY/A.

Offensively, Rivers has put up 256 passing yards on the year, and has completed 85 percent of his 27 attempts with three scores through the air and has yet to throw an interception. Rivers has a sparkling 10.34 adjusted net yards per pass attempt, including 9.05 over the last two games.

We expect the Chargers to control tempo by feeding their running backs early and often. Melvin Gordon III (28 rush yards, one rush TD, 38 receiving yards, two receiving TDs) and Austin Ekeler (77 rush yards, 21 receiving yards) have been big focal points in the offensive scheme for Los Angeles.

On the other sideline, Jared Goff has completed 24-of-32 passes for 354 yards, one TD and one INT. Goff’s ANY/A stands at 9.32 for the season and 8.56 across his past two outings.

The Rams also prefer to utilize their backfield. In addition to Brandin Cooks (159 receiving yards), Todd Gurley II (42 rush yards, three rush TDs, 31 receiving yards) and Cooper Kupp (zero rush yards, 63 receiving yards) have seen a lot of action recently.
