Week 3 Free Betting Preview: New York Jets at Cleveland Browns

The New York Jets and Cleveland Browns are ready to face off on the grass at FirstEnergy Stadium. The game gets underway at 8:20 p.m. ET and interested parties can tune in to the action on NFL Network. When these two franchises faced one another a year ago, New York knocked New York off by a field goal 17-14.

New York Jets vs. Cleveland Browns Betting Preview

The Jets have gained 2.3 units so far in 2018 and are 1-0 against the spread (ATS). The team has posted an O/U record of 1-0. The Browns have gained 0.0 units this season. The team is 1-0 ATS and also has an O/U record of 1-0.

The Jets have gone 1-1 straight up (SU) in 2018 while the Browns are 0-1-1 SU.

The Jets fell to Miami 20-12 in a Week 2 contest where the passing attack left much to be desired as Sam Darnold completed 25-of-41 passes for 334 yards, one score and two interceptions. Isaiah Crowell (only 35 yards on 12 rush attempts) led the ground attack while Quincy Enunwa (seven receptions, 92 yards) and Powell (five catches, 74 yards, one TD) manned the receiving duties in the defeat.

Cleveland narrowly dropped a 21-18 game to New Orleans a week ago. The let the Saints tally 243 yards through the air and 62 more on the ground. Alvin Kamara put up a solid outing in the win for New Orleans, recording 46 rushing yards on 13 attempts, along with 53 yards on six catches. For Cleveland, Tyrod Taylor completed 22-of-30 passes for 246 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Carlos Hyde (43 rushing yards on 16 attempts, one TD) handled the running attack while Rashard Higgins (five receptions, 47 yards) and Jarvis Landry (five catches, 69 yards) led the pass-catching corps in the loss.

Each squad sports a similar run-pass ratio on the season. New York has run the ball on 47.0 percent of its offensive possessions while Cleveland has a rush percentage of 48.1. The Jets have rushed for 106 yards per game and have two scores on the ground this year. The Browns are averaging 135 rushing yards per game and have three total rush TDs.

The Jets offensive scheme has logged 266 yards per contest in the air overall and has three passing TDs so far. The Browns have produced 222 pass yards per outing and have two total pass scores.

Defensively, New York should have the upper hand in both facets. The team has allowed opponents to run for an average of 87 yards and throw for 234 yards per game. The Cleveland D has given up 289.0 yards per game to opposing passers and 110.5 yards per game on the ground. The Jets are giving up an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of just 3.25 to opponents, while the Browns have allowed a 5.43 ANY/A.

Offensively, Darnold has amassed 334 passing yards on the year. He’s completed 61 percent of his 41 attempts with one passing scores and two interceptions. Darnold has a 5.68 adjusted net yards per pass attempt, including 6.34 over the last two outings.

The Jets will probably try to control the pace by feeding their running backs early and often. In addition to wideout Quincy Enunwa (92 receiving yards), Bilal Powell (six rush yards, 74 receiving yards, one receiving TD) and Isaiah Crowell (35 rush yards) have delivered in the New York offensive scheme.

In the host locker room, Tyrod Taylor has completed 22-of-30 passes for 246 yards, one TD and one INT. Taylor’s ANY/A stands at 6.33 for the year and 4.17 over his last two games.

The Browns also like to utilize their backfield. In addition to Jarvis Landry (69 receiving yards), Carlos Hyde (43 rush yards, one rush TD) and Tyrod Taylor (26 rush yards) have gotten a lot of action lately.
