New York Giants vs. Atlanta Falcons Betting Preview

In this Monday NFC matchup, Atlanta has been tabbed as the favorite and the team’s currently giving up 6 points. The Giants are also receiving +190 moneyline odds while the Falcons are -230. Vegas has placed the over/under (O/U) at 54 points, and if one squad can find paydirt early on, it will likely create a worthwhile in-game betting opportunity.

Sharp bettors are siding with the Falcons. The line opened at -5, while the game’s over/under has not moved after it was set initially at 54.

The Giants are 2-4 against the spread (ATS) and are down 2.8 units so far. The team has posted an O/U record of 3-3. The Falcons have lost 2.9 units for moneyline bettors this season. They’re 2-4 ATS and own an O/U record of 5-1.

The Giants are 1-5 straight up (SU) in 2018 while the Falcons are 2-4 SU.

The Giants lost to Philadelphia 34-13 in a Week 6 blowout where Eli Manning completed only 24 passes on 43 attempts for 281 yards and one interception. Saquon Barkley (130 rushing yards on 13 attempts, one TD) led the ground attack while Barkley (nine receptions, 99 yards) and Odell Beckham Jr. (six catches, 44 yards) handled the receiving duties in the defeat.

Atlanta just picked up a 34-29 win over Tampa Bay in Week 6. The team’s defense allowed the Buccaneers to pass for 395 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 123 yards. Peyton Barber was a bright spot in the loss, posting 82 rushing yards on 13 attempts for Tampa Bay. For Atlanta, Matt Ryan completed 31-of-41 passes for 354 yards and three touchdowns. Ito Smith (22 yards on 11 rush attempts, one TD) and Tevin Coleman (35 yards on 10 carries) handled the running game as Julio Jones (10 receptions, 143 yards) and Austin Hooper (nine catches, 71 yards, one TD) led the receiving corps in the win.

New York has run the ball on 33.2 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Atlanta has a rush percentage of 37.2 percent. The Giants have rushed for 88 yards per game and have four scores on the ground this year. The Falcons are putting up 86 rushing yards per game and have six total rush TDs.

Based on the numbers so far, it appears the Giants might own an advantage in terms of efficiency in the ground game. Their backfield has logged 4.6 yards per carry while their defense is allowing a YPC of 4.4 to opponents. The Falcons have ran for 3.8 yards per carry and given up a YPC of 5.1 to opponents.

The G-Men offensive scheme has logged 287 yards per contest in the air overall and has seven passing scores so far. The Falcons have recorded 329 pass yards per contest and have 14 total pass TDs.

New York should have an edge when it comes to limiting the pass. The team’s let opponents run for an average of 122 yards and pass for 244 yards per game. The Atlanta defense has given up 307.5 yards per game to opposing passers and 121.7 yards per game to opposing runners. The G-Men are giving up an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of 6.75 to opposing QBs, while the Falcons have allowed a 7.30 ANY/A.

Offensively, Manning has put up 1,336 passing yards this year, and has connected on 70 percent of his 194 attempts with four scores through the air and two interceptions. He’s got a 5.51 adjusted net yards per pass attempt, including 5.76 over the last two outings.

Saquon Barkley (390 rushing yards, four rush TDs, 292 receiving yards this season), Odell Beckham Jr. (375 receiving yards) and Sterling Shepard (266 receiving yards, two TDs) have all played significant roles lately.

For the home team, Matt Ryan has connected on 130-of-186 passes for 1,670 yards, 13 TDs and two INTs. Ryan’s ANY/A sits at 9.01 for the year and 7.77 over his last two games.

We expect Ryan to distribute the football early and often in this one. Julio Jones (645 receiving yards), Austin Hooper (196 receiving yards, two receiving TDs), and Mohamed Sanu (230 receiving yards, two TDs) have collectively notched 472 receiving yards and three TDs over the last two games.
