Wisconsin Upset Maryland, Building Resume

As Wisconsin upset Maryland in College Park on Saturday night, the questions surrounding the Badgers’ resume died down for the night as few teams own better wins in the past month.

Wisconsin has now won seven straight in the Big 10, surging to an 8-4 record in conference play shortly after many thought they were out of the running for the NCAA Tournament entirely. Now, we’ll still have to wait and see what the committee does with UW’s early losses against poor competition, but at this point, they’re nearing the point where their signature wins after the coaching change should over shadow their losses under Bo Ryan.

But as those questions fell silent for the night, the noise surrounding the Terrapins gained volume and steam. People have started to wonder what is wrong with Melo Trimble, as the sophomore point guard put up his second poor offensive performance in three games–he shot just 1-of-14 last night and 2-of-12 against Purdue last week.

The Terps had won 27-games in a row at home during conference play before the loss. Freshman Diamond Stone could be facing a suspension for the technical foul he was awarded–though, curiously, he wasn’t ejected–below:

In losing by such a convincing margin and style, Maryland’s detractors are still wondering whether or not head coach Mark Turgeon is able to get the most out of this group. There may not be a more talented starting five in the country, yet senior Jake Layman still lacks involvement and Trimble hasn’t been the same dynamic playmaker from a year ago.
