According to ESPN, Group J at the 2026 World Cup features Argentina, Algeria, Austria and Jordan. The tournament’s group stage is divided into 12 groups of four teams each.
Argentina enter Group J as the top-ranked side in FIFA’s table and have now made 19 World Cup appearances, including every edition since 1974 for a 14-tournament run. Their best results are tournament wins in 1978, 1986 and 2022, and their overall World Cup record stands at 47 wins, 17 draws and 24 losses. Lionel Messi is Argentina’s all-time World Cup top scorer with 13 goals, holds the record for most men’s World Cup appearances (26) and is tied for fourth on the tournament goals list with 13; Argentina will seek to become the third nation to win consecutive men’s World Cups.
Algeria appear in their fifth World Cup (1982, 1986, 2010, 2014, 2026) and are ranked 28th by FIFA. Their best finish came in 2014 when they reached the Round of 16. Algeria’s overall World Cup record is 3-3-7, and three players share the country’s top scoring mark with two goals each: Salah Assad, Islam Slimani and Abdelmoumene Djabou. In their 1982 debut, Algeria beat West Germany 2-1, becoming the first team to defeat a former World Cup champion in its tournament debut and the first African side to beat a European nation at the World Cup.
Austria, ranked 24th, make their eighth World Cup appearance (1934, 1954, 1958, 1978, 1982, 1990, 1998, 2026). Their best finish was third place in 1954. Austria’s overall World Cup record is 12 wins, four draws and 13 losses. Erich Probst is the nation’s top scorer at the tournament with six goals; he scored all six in 1954. Austria also hold the record for the largest comeback in a men’s World Cup match, defeating Switzerland 7-5 in 1954 after trailing 3-0, a mark later tied by Portugal’s 5-3 win over North Korea in 1966.
Jordan, ranked 63rd by FIFA, will make their World Cup debut in 2026. During qualifying, the attack was led by Ali Oliwan (nine goals, one assist), Yazan Al Naimat (eight goals, five assists) and Mousa Al-Tamari (seven goals, two assists).
