Wrestling News Roundup, 8.8.17

Things are always changing in the wrestling world, and while today’s news roundup is a bit of a slow one, there is a lot of fun stuff to check out. Kairi Sane is back in action, Braun Strowman pretends to be a pregnant teenage girl, and SummerSlam signing information is revealed.

Kairi Sane Cleared to Return to the Ring
When WWE announced the Mae Young Classic, one participant has been hyped more than the rest: Kairi Sane (formerly known as Kairi Hojo). Sane is widely regarded as one of the best female wrestlers in the world today, and big things are expected from her in the historic tournament. WWE taped most of the tournament last month over a two day period and during that time, Sane suffered a concussion. Thankfully, word has broken that she is ready to return to the squared circle.

On Twitter earlier today, WWE announced that while Sane cannot make the NXT Live Event in California, she will be competing at the show in St. Petersburg, Florida with the local crew. Hopefully Sane can stay healthy because if she does, it seems almost guaranteed that she has big things coming her way.

Charlotte and Becky Lynch Launch “What’s the Tea?”
We’re back to Twitter with a 30-second segment from Charlotte and Becky Lynch. Since reuniting on SmackDown Live, Charlotte and Lynch have been using “tea” as their phrase or motif of choice through the past couple months. Lynch, the interview in this scenario, asks Charlotte what the “tea” is with “what happened” during her match with Lana this week, referring to a very brief wardrobe malfunction that, thankfully, didn’t get caught on camera. Charlotte laughs it off saying she just “wanted to give Toronto a good show.” Perhaps this could be the start of something new from the former Women’s Champions.

Braun Strowman Reads Lines from Juno
While most fans know Braun Strowman as the man who transitioned from the biggest Wyatt Family member to the one man wrecking crew we see on Raw today, Strowman is known to get a little bit silly sometimes. Before debuting, he was a member of Adam Rose’s Rosebuds, after all (Remember Adam Rose? His entrance theme was very catchy).

Today, Strowman decided to have a little fun in a video for The Ringer where he reads some lines from Juno, where the main character (a teenage girl) tells her parents that she has an unwanted pregnancy. Combining Strowman’s audio with real movie footage makes for a hilarious clip that everyone should check out.

Jon Jones Might Be at SummerSlam
At the end of July, Jon Jones successfully defeated Daniel Cormier at UFC 214. After his victory, The UFC Light Heavyweight Champion called out current WWE Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar, to a fight. Both men have been faintly teasing this possible fight for a couple weeks, but if it ever happens, it won’t be until 2018 because Lesnar would have to go through drug testing after using enhancements in his last fight.

At SummerSlam, Brock Lesnar is defending the Universal Championship against Samoa Joe, Roman Reigns, and Braun Strowman, and Paul Heyman announced that if Lesnar loses, he is leaving WWE. This is the perfect time for Jones to sit at ringside and tease an altercation, giving WWE and UFC plenty of much-needed buzz to get mainstream fighting fans interesting in something outside of the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor fight. SummerSlam is known for having celebrities (mainly Jon Stewart) getting involved, so Jones very well might cost Lesnar the title.
