WWE Power Rankings, Week of 5/8/17

Welcome back to the Get More Sports Weekly WWE Power Rankings, where we rank the top 25 Superstars of the week by performance, momentum, and impact. This week, WWE headed to Europe and taped their weekly shows in the United Kingdom. There weren’t any huge matches during this tour, but it was still a week filled with content. Between two #1 Contender’s matches on Raw and NXT as well as 205 Live and SmackDown Live, let’s see how this affects the rankings.

  1. Alexa Bliss (+0)
Not only did the Raw Women’s Champion continue the incredible roll she has been on, she gained a best friend in Nia Jax. Jax was at ringside for her match when she defeated her former ally, Mickie James.
  2. The Miz (+0)
Along with Dean Ambrose, The Miz was named Co-General Manager for Monday Night Raw this week. He tried to get himself a disqualification victory over Finn Balor, but Ambrose restarted the match and Miz lost. However, The Miz would screw over Dean Ambrose in the main event, leading to the Intercontinental Champion losing to Bray Wyatt.
  3. Jinder Mahal (+0)
This current run Jinder Mahal has been on is amazing. Last week, he pinned Sami Zayn and this week, he pinned the WWE Champion, Randy Orton, in the main event of SmackDown Live.
  4. Sheamus & Cesaro (+10)
It’s one thing to become the new #1 Contenders for the Raw Tag Team Championships. It’s another to beat every other team in the division consecutively over the entire second hour of the show. Sure, some of those victories were a little underhanded, but it doesn’t dampen the achievement.
  5. Kevin Owens (-1)
Owens teamed up with Jinder Mahal and Baron Corbin against Randy Orton, AJ Styles, and Sami Zayn. The United States Champion didn’t score the winning fall, but he competed for a good portion of the match that led to his team’s victory.
  6. Hideo Itami (+15)
After returning to action only a few weeks ago, Hideo Itami penciled his name in the main event of NXT TakeOver: Chicago by defeating Roderick Strong to become the new #1 Contender for Bobby Roode’s NXT Championship.
  7. The Welcoming Committee (+0)
Carmella, Natalya, and Tamina continued their dominance of the SmackDown Women’s Division this week when Natalya scored a victory over Becky Lynch. They seem to have the edge going into their six-woman tag team match against Charlotte, Naomi, and Lynch at Backlash.
  8. Breezango (+1)
A few weeks ago, Fandango and Tyler Breeze became the new #1 Contenders to The Usos’ SmackDown Tag Team Championships. Along with their hilarious “The Fashion Files” segments, they picked up a win this week against The Ascension.
  9. Finn Balor (-4)
As mentioned above, Finn Balor took on The Miz this week on Raw. Balor would have lost by disqualification, but Dean Ambrose demanded the referee to restart the match which led to Balor picking up the victory about a minute later.
  10. Bray Wyatt (-4)
Since moving to Raw in the Superstar Shake-up, Bray Wyatt had only competed for his new brand at Payback in the House of Horrors, but this week he competed in regular one-on-one action against Dean Ambrose. Thanks to some help from The Miz, he defeated Ambrose in his quest to do… something.
  11. Samoa Joe (-1)
Even though Samoa Joe lost to Seth Rollins at Payback, he made it clear that he isn’t done with the former WWE Champion. Joe attacked Rollins early in Monday Night Raw, which led to a match later in the night. Joe would lose by disqualification, but only because he wanted to assault Rollins without worrying about rules.
  12. Roman Reigns (-)
The feud between Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman has led to both men from getting injured, but it didn’t stop them from trying to destroy each other this week. Reigns got the better of their exchange this week, with Strowman seeming more hurt than he has ever been.
  13. Dean Ambrose (-)
Even though he lost to Bray Wyatt this week, Dean Ambrose had a direct impact on how Monday Night Raw played out tonight. Being a Co-General Manager, Ambrose set up several matches tonight and kept every segment entertaining.
  14. Baron Corbin (-)
The Lone Wolf returned from his one-week long suspension and won in the main event of SmackDown alongside Jinder Mahal and Kevin Owens.
  15. Erick Rowan (-)
The former (current?) member of the Wyatt Family scored another big singles win since returning to SmackDown Live when he defeated his former brother, Luke Harper. It is unclear where this goes for Rowan, but he continues to build momentum every week.
  16. Nikki Cross (-1)
Now that she is set to compete for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT TakeOver: Chicago, Nikki Cross was supposed to be interviewed this week on NXT. Instead, she scared away the crew members helping her out and she just rambled to herself.
  17. The Brian Kendrick (-)
In what seemed like the end of Brian Kendrick’s three-month long feud with Akira Tozawa, the former Cruiserweight Champion would lose their match. However, he immediately assaulted Tozawa after the match, sandwiching him between both halves of the steel steps.
  18. Akira Tozawa (-1)
As mentioned above, Tozawa got brutally attacked by Kendrick this week. However, he did technically win their feud, so he still gets a nod.
  19. Roderick Strong (+3)
After a couple weeks of getting to know Roderick Strong, he competed in the main event of NXT against Hideo Itami. He would end up losing the match, but he put on another incredible performance to prove why he belongs in the title picture.
  20. #DIY (-)
It seemed like Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa were away from the ring forever, but they returned to action this week when they defeated Riddick Moss and Tino Sabatelli. This led to William Regal granting them their one-on-one rematch for the NXT Tag Team Championships at TakeOver: Chicago.
  21. Aleister Black (-)
The mysterious Aleister Black continued his streak of winning short, dominant matches when he took out the big Cezar Bononi with the swift Black Mass spinning heel kick.
  22. Mustafa Ali (-)
After two weeks of consecutive losses, Mustafa Ali got back on track this week by defeated “The Premier Athlete,” Tony Nese on 205 Live.
  23. Shinsuke Nakamura (-)
The King of Strong Style has yet to compete for SmackDown, but he was close to having a match with Dolph Ziggler this week. Instead, Ziggler retreated and they will compete at Backlash.
  24. TJP (-)
TJP, who joins the group of wrestlers that lost their full names, defeated Jack Gallagher in his home country of England this week. He would have injured Gallagher too if it wasn’t for Austin Aries saving the Extraordinary Gentleman.
  25. SAnitY (-)
After NXT went off the air, SAnitY took advantage of a tired Roderick Strong by assaulting him. This would have made more of an impact if it happened on the actual show.
  • New to the Rankings This Week: SAnitY, TJP, Shinsuke Nakamura, Mustafa Ali, Aleister Black, #DIY, The Brian Kendrick, Erick Rowan, Baron Corbin, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns
  • Kicked off the Rankings: Jack Gallagher, Asuka, Dolph Ziggler, Sin Cara, Drew Gulak, Apollo Crews, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson, Tye Dillinger, Noam Dar, Killian Dain (kind of)
