WWE Smackdown Recap: Tag Matches Galore

WWE Extreme Rules is 10 days away, and Superstars are hoping to build as much momentum as possible going into the Pay-Per-View. Tonight’s episode of Smackdown will feature three tag team matches. Goldango (Fandango and Goldust) will take on Gorgeous Truth (R-Truth and Tyler Breeze) to see whether Goldust or R-Truth picked the better teammate. Along with this, the Usos will take on Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson for the third time. For this match, both Roman Reigns and AJ Styles are banned from ringside. To main event the evening, Cesaro and Sami Zayn will take on Kevin Owens and The Miz.

Opening Segment
To kick things off, the Lunatic Fringe, Dean Ambrose, makes his way down to the ring. Ambrose starts talking about how he is going to destroy Chris Jericho, and Jericho himself interrupts Ambrose. While looking at the entrance ramp expecting Jericho, Jericho attacks Ambrose from behind. After laying Ambrose out, Jericho puts him in a straight jacket and continues to beat on him, ending with two Codebreakers.

Rusev (w/Lana) vs. Sin Cara
On Monday Night Raw, Sin Cara scored a victory over Rusev thanks to outside interference from Kalisto. Rusev was furious after this loss, and demanded a rematch for tonight. For the duration of this match, Kalisto will join the commentary team at ringside.

During the match, Lana throws a cup of water at Kalisto, which distracts Sin Cara. After superkicking Kalisto from behind, Rusev locks in the Accolade on Sin Cara for the victory. Winner (via submission): Rusev

Dana Brooke (w/Emma) vs. Becky Lynch
Dana Brooke is making her main roster in-ring debut tonight. Brooke has tons of experience on NXT, where her alliance with Emma was key in their feud with current NXT Women’s Champion, Asuka. The bodybuilder, who calls herself the “Total Diva,” attacked Becky Lynch from behind on Monday Night Raw for reasons still unknown. Tonight, Becky Lynch looks to get revenge on the debuting Superstar.

Dana Brooke get the jackknife cover on Lynch after Emma pokes Lynch in the eye to give Brooke a victory in her debut. Winner: Dana Brooke

Aiden English (w/Simon Gotch) vs. Kofi Kingston (w/Big E & Xavier Woods)
At Extreme Rules, the Vaudevillains will take on the New Day for the Tag Team Championships. In typical Smackdown fashion, one member representing each team faces each other to give us a glimpse at what might happen at Extreme Rules.

Simon Gotch keeps trying to interfere with the match, but it leads to Gotch and the New Day being banned from ringside. English covers Kingston and uses the second rope to his advantage to pick up the victory. Winner: Aiden English

The Usos vs. Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows
Ever since Anderson and Gallows debuted, they have target Roman Reigns and the Usos. Gallows and Anderson won their first encounter with the Usos, and the second one went to a “no contest.” Tonight, The Usos try again to get a win over the former Bullet Club members. As mentioned above, Roman Reigns and AJ Styles are banned from ringside.

Gallows throws Jimmy Uso over the announcer’s table and the referee calls for the bell for some reason. Result: No Contest

After the match, the fight continues as Gallows and Anderson use a steel chair to decimate the Usos.

Goldango vs. Gorgeous Truth
This is another match in the ongoing feud of R-Truth and Goldust where they struggle to become a tag team. With some troubles between the two over the past few months, they have found their own partners (Truth found Tyler Breeze and Goldust found Fandango)

Tyler Breeze and Fandango both turn on their respective partners, seemingly creating their own team. After Fandango turns on Goldust, Breeze takes advantage and picks up the victory. Winners: Gorgeous Truth

Cesaro & Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens & The Miz (w/Maryse)
All four of these men are involved in the Intercontinental Championship fatal four-way match at Extreme Rules. Whichever team wins will gain some momentum going into the title match.

Kevin Owens hits a frog splash on Cesaro to pick up the victory for his team. After the match, a chain of finishers hits, ending with The Miz standing tall over the challengers. Winners: Kevin Owens & The Miz
