The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that former catcher Yadier Molina is rejoining the organization in a new role as special assistant to the front office. A legendary figure in Cardinals history, Molina will contribute to a range of organizational functions, including advising on the team’s catching program, providing input on game strategy, and supporting the club’s daily operations.
Molina, known for his exceptional defensive skills, leadership, and deep baseball knowledge, played all 19 seasons of his Major League Baseball career with the Cardinals. During that time, he became one of the most respected catchers in the game, earning numerous accolades including 10 Gold Glove Awards and making 10 All-Star appearances. His leadership behind the plate helped guide St. Louis to two World Series championships in 2006 and 2011.
The Cardinals emphasized that Molina’s return will bring valuable insight and experience to the front office as the team looks to build on its storied tradition. “Yadier has always had a strong understanding of the game and an incredible work ethic,” said a team representative. “We’re excited for the perspectives and leadership he will continue to bring to the organization.”
In his role, Molina is expected to be a resource for both coaches and players, particularly in the development of young catchers. His deep familiarity with the club’s operations, culture, and expectations makes him well-suited for this transition into a baseball operations role.
Molina retired from playing after the 2022 season, concluding a distinguished career in which he caught more than 2,000 games, all with St. Louis. Since retiring, he has remained involved in the game, reportedly managing teams in his native Puerto Rico and expressing interest in front office work.
The Cardinals continue to look to former players like Molina to strengthen their internal operations, and his involvement reconfirms the club’s commitment to integrating its rich history into its future plans.
