Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman is not going anywhere this offseason. Rather than opt-out of the final two years of his contract and test free agency, Chapman and the club have agreed to an extension that adds one more year to the original deal for $18 million. He is due to make $30 million in each of the final two years of his original deal.

Chapman is coming off one of his best seasons yet, and it is clear he enjoys playing for the Yankees. He posted a 2.21 ERA in 57 innings pitched, striking out 85 batters and notching 37 saves in the process. His season ended on a bad note though, when he gave up a walk-off home run to Jose Altuve in game seven of the ALCS to send the Houston Astros to the World Series.
This makes the Yankees even scarier as they will be returning Chapman, Zack Britton, Adam Ottavino, Tommy Kahnle, and Chad Green to their bullpen in 2020. They also hope to be past the injury bug that bit them badly in 2019.
