Yankees News: Gerrit Cole Offered Record Contract by Bronx Bombers

Just as quickly as the mystery team jumps into the fray on Gerrit Cole, an ESPN alert surges across everyone’s cell phones. Now, a deal looks imminent.

Per Buster Olney of ESPN, the New York Yankees have offered Cole a contract worth more than the record-breaking seven-year, $245 million deal that Stephen Strasburg and the Washington Nationals agreed to Monday. Nevertheless, this report is according to sources.

At the current time, this is the biggest part of the report. Of course, the other part of the story is will Cole be worth this contract and what will the dollar amount be?

In 2019, Cole went 20-5 with a league low 2.50 ERA and 326 strikeouts in 212 1/3 innings. He finished second in American League Cy Young voting.

Right now, it seems that the Yankees are at the forefront of the bidding war. Typically when Buster Olney reports something like this, there is levity to the report.

As with all contract offer situations, it will remain fluent until something is officially stamped ‘official’. Until that time, we will update this storyline which is obviously going to be the biggest domino to fall at the MLB Winter Meetings.
