Yelich Sets April Record, Kershaw Gets First Win and More

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Christian Yelich’s torrid April continues for the Milwaukee Brewers, and now he has the Major League Baseball record for home runs before May 1. Another superstar, Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw, got off to a slow start because of injury but now has his first win after a dominant performance against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Elsewhere, the Atlanta Braves try to shore up their bullpen, a bright young White Sox star goes on the injured list and another returns from suspension with an emphatic bat spike (guess who?).

Yes, the season started a few days earlier than normal this year, but 14 home runs before May Day is still a boatload. Let’s call it a Yelich Dozen.

Reports of Clayton Kershaw’s demise were greatly exaggerated, whether they stemmed from health concerns or pitching performance. He looked just fine Saturday night against Pittsburgh.

Elsewhere, the Braves’ bullpen continues to be a problem. Fans have called for them to sign the still-available Craig Kimbrel, but for now they settled for a lesser move.

Unfortunate situation in Chicago, where rookie sensation Eloy Jimenez was just getting hot when he had to hit the IL with a sprained ankle.

Speaking of the White Sox, Tim Anderson is not going to stop flipping bats any time soon. Are you not entertained?
