2018 Masters: Rory Rises But Reed Still Leads After Third Round

Masters

Saturday was moving day at the 2018 Masters Tournament and there was a lot of jockeying for position. However, Patrick Reed is still at the top of the pack and will head into the final round as the favorite.

Reed entered the day with a two-shot lead over Marc Leishman and padded that with a -5 (67). Many expected him to fade down the leaderboard but that simply didn’t happen. However, a number of other golfers did.

Jordan Spieth, who was the leader after the first round, carried his Friday struggles over into Saturday. He was the favorite at BetDSI follow Thursday’s right but after a 66 on Friday and a 71 on Saturday, he now finds himself at -5 under for the tournament. While that’s not bad, he has a lot of ground to cover if he’s to catch up to Reed, who is in double digits.

There were some big scores on Saturday, including three players who shot 65’s. That includes Rory McIlroy, who has now moved into second place at -11. He’s going to be in the final pairing with Reed, so that will be interesting to watch. McIlroy will apply a lot of pressure; when he’s on, he’s on.

Rickie Fowler also came out of nowhere with a 65 to move to -9 and take sole place of third. Jon Rahm also jumped up to -8 with his stellar round of 65, holding fourth place as we move into the final round. These are the main golfers in contention and that’s assuming that Reed cools off a little bit.

If Reed doesn’t cool off, it will be hard for anyone else to even get in the conversation. Henrik Stenson is a solid -7 through three rounds. Bubba Watson (68) and Tommy Fleedwood (66) both had stellar third rounds. They’re now sitting at -6 along with Marc Leishman, who fell from second place after shooting a 73.

As for Tiger Woods, he was once the main story heading into The Masters but he shot a 72 and is now tied for 40th.

We’ve now seen a number of players shoot 65 throughout this event, so it is possible that someone comes out of nowhere and makes a big run – especially if Reed struggles. However, we’re probably looking at someone from the top-four as the main men in contention.
