2018 World Cup Odds: Uruguay vs. France Betting Preview and Free Pick

Uruguay vs France
John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports

France ruined Lionel Messi dreams of winning the World Cup title with a stunning 4-3 victory over Argentina in the previous round, but the Quarter-Final clash against Uruguay set for this Friday, July 6th, 2018, at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium could be a difficult job for a young France team. Despite the Blues are set as +100 favorites by the bookmakers, the bettors can expect to see an exciting game as Uruguay would not surrender, for sure.

URUGUAY

After some dominant displays in the Group A where Uruguay recorded all three wins without conceding against Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Russia respectively, La Celeste managed to overcome the European Champions Portugal 2-1 in the Round of 16 of the 2018 World Cup. It was a terrific clash between two sturdy sides, and Uruguay kept the focus at the defensive line, while the 31-year old striker Edinson Cavani hit an astonishing brace, leading his team past Cristiano Ronaldo and co.

Uruguay showed some amazing team defense with all ten men behind the ball, launching quick counter-attacks whenever it was possible. The attacking duo Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani combined for five out of seven Uruguay’s goals so far, proving they can score literally at will, while the first goal against Portugal was a pure magic. The biggest issue ahead of the Quarter-Finals is certainly Edinson Cavani’s injury, as he had to leave the pitch in the 74th minute of the match with the Portuguese, but he should be ready at least for the second half.

  • Uruguay is at +175 to qualify for the Semi-Final
  • Uruguay is at +600 to make it to the Final
  • Uruguay is a +1600 underdog to beat the 2018 World Cup

FRANCE

Two unconvincing victories over Australia and Peru, and one goalless draw with Denmark dropped the odds on France to win the title in Russia, but the fantastic 4-3 win against Argentina in the Round of 16 made the Blues the second biggest favorite to beat the 2018 World Cup with the wages at +400. It was undoubtedly the best performance of the tournament so far, as the Blues managed to upheave the result after they were trailing 2-1 in the second half thanks to a great team effort.

France’s hero is a 19-year old wunderkind Kylian Mbappe who scored a couple of goals in the second half along with a penalty earned in the first 45 minutes, proving that he’s the brightest talent in the world at the moment. Mbappe looked completely unstoppable, but the Blues’ defensive work was surprisingly poor for the most of the match, and it could be a huge problem when they face Cavani and Suarez this Friday.

Uruguay vs. France – Match and Odds Breakdown

The bookies anticipate a tough game with no more than a couple of goals in the total, setting -211 odds on the under 2.5 goals, while the price on the over is +160. Uruguay plays terrific defense, and La Celeste will probably take a patient and cautious approach against mighty France side. On the other side, the Blues’ self-confidence is surely sky-high after the clash with Argentina, but they should have way more problems to score against sturdy Uruguay team.

France is a +100 favorite for a reason, but covering the spread at -1.5 with +300 wages could be a tricky job. Likewise, the attacking potential on both sides is enormous, so picking both teams to score at +120 could be a nice, brave wager, as these guys are capable of netting in a blink of an eye. Uruguay is a combat team, and La Celeste will give their best to resist the Blues in 90 minutes, but my first pick will be wagering on a draw at halftime.

I would like to go with Uruguay, as I admire their brave but intelligent play. However, they will have a mountain to climb against France, while the bettors can check out all lines and odds on BetDSI Sportsbook.

The Pick: Draw at HT (-110)
