This year’s auditions on So You Think You Can Dance have been amazing and this is the last week before the Academy. What happened in this episode? Here’s a recap:
Andrew Avila and Melanie Mercedez from the Bronx, New York are up first and these salsa dancers are good, but I don’t think they are fantastic. Nigel said tremendous. Twitch said he was shimmying. Mary said Melanie is a hot tamale. They advance.

Tiger is auditioning next as a hip-hop breakdancer. Twitch says his footwork is clean. May calls him clean and energized. Nigel says we get boys that do three or four moves and stop but he kept moving. It was a split decision, but he got through.
Mika Doman, a contemporary dancer, who was born with brain tissue that was bigger than normal and has to get them taken out. her mother just went through chemo. Wow. She’s doing a spoken word piece. That’s different. The judges don’t really like the choreography. Vanessa said no, while Twitch and Mary said yes. Nigel said yes.
New York is the birthplace of hip-hop, but Kory Gellar is auditioning for So You Think You Can Dance with jazz. His dream is to dance on Broadway. Nigel says it was over-the-top but was too pantominey. Mary said he needs to develop his skills and he doesn’t get through.
Tapper Brianna Penrose is up next and is really good and smooth. She gets through too. That’s how you do a Broadway-style number. Twitch said that he had what they’ve been waiting for. A golden ticket to the Academy is his.
The next montage is of all the people who got a ‘no,’ which is always sad to watch. Ballet dancer Arcadian Broad is next who is with the Orlando Ballet.

Darius Hickman, Jensen Arnold and Genessy Castillo all got through too without the entire auditions being shown. Bridget Derville-Teer who says she doesn’t conform to the dancer stereotype actually scares Nigel. She i fabulous dancer no matter how she tries to be dark. Mary calls her a powerhouse and says it’s beautiful. Nigel said he got the emotion she was trying to put in. Vanessa said she was mystical. Twitch said she is unique and fully committed. Golden Ticket!
Battle!
The last audition on So You Think You Can Dance is Ryan Green who auditioned in a previous season. He’s dancing animation and mutation. He used to be homeless! Best audition of the episode. Twitch is pounding his chest. Nigel says he is ‘sick’ in so many ways. Twitch says he’s on another level right now. Mary calls him a genius artist. Nigel asks if he battles and here comes Twitch!
