Huberdeau extends his Flames deal for a further eight years and $84 million

On Thursday, Jonathan Huberdeau extended his contract with the Calgary Flames for another eight years and $84 million. It starts in 2023–24 and has an average yearly value of $10.5 million. On July 22, the 29-year-old left wing was exchanged for forward Matthew Tkachuk and a conditional fourth-round selection in the 2025 NHL Draft along with defender MacKenzie Weegar, forward prospect Cole Schwindt, and a conditional first-round pick.

According to Huberdeau on Friday, “Emotionally, it’s been a roller coaster over the previous few weeks. Clearly surprised by the trade. I was feeling a little depressed, but I believe that in the end, you should look ahead in life, so that’s what I told myself. Naturally, I spent a lot of time playing in Florida, but I need to move on.” The biggest contract in Flames history is his.
