Baseball Betting:  The St. Louis Cardinals will look to continue their recent dominance of the Cincinnati Reds on Monday in a game that can be seen on MLB Network.   The Cardinals have surged to the lead in the National League Central while the Reds have struggled.  And the Cardinals have owned this series of late, winning eight of the last 10.  Here is a look at Monday’s game and baseball predictions.

Probable Pitchers – Shelby Miller vs. Dylan Axelrod

Shelby Miller comes into this game with a record of 8-9 with a 4.00 ERA.  He is coming off one of his best starts of the season as he threw seven scoreless innings against the Pirates.  He finally showed some control but he still got a no-decision as the Cardinals scored after he had left the game to get the win.  Miller hasn’t gotten a decision in his last three starts even though his ERA is 2.25. He is just 1-2 with a 4.23 ERA in his career against the Reds.

Dylan Axelrod should be getting the call on Monday for the Reds. He pitched well last time out against Baltimore but the team didn’t score any runs for him.  Axelrod is basically just a fill-in pitcher as the team has pretty much thrown in the towel on this season.

Reds manager Bryan Price has gotten to the point where he is ready to look at players for next season. “I’m not questioning effort,” he said. “I do think that we’ve gotten to this point now where we’ve got some guys up here that we need to take a look at. We need to see what they’re all about. We’re not doing anything at all offensively, and it makes it a lot easier to start to see what we have in our system, see what we have moving forward.”

The Reds lost 29 of their first 44 games coming out of the All-Star break to fall out of contention in the National League.  The offense simply has been pathetic. “It’s uninspiring to watch,” Price said, “It has nothing to do with effort, but at some point and time, performance has to be the most important thing, and we’re at a point now where we’re just not getting performance.

Series Notes

The Cardinals had taken eight of the last 10 in this series before it began with five of the last six going over. The teams had split their last ten in Cincinnati with three of the last four going over.

Baseball Predictions

We’ll look for the Cardinals to win this game on Monday.
