Bruins Banged Up Along the Blue Line, KHL Signings, and More

Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals won’t be until tomorrow night, as there will be two days of rest between the last three games. That will give both the Boston Bruins and St. Louis Blues time to rest up, and that’s particularly valuable to the Bruins. The extra day means that Zdeno Chara and Matt Grzelcyk might be available on Thursday night.

Grzelcyk has not been on the ice since sustaining a concussion after a hit from Oskar Sundqvist in Game 2. He has been in the concussion protocol, and while he is skating again, he has not yet been cleared for game action. As for Chara, he did not skate at Wednesday morning’s practice as he continues to recover after being hit in the face with a puck in Game 4.

Connor McDavid is one of the best players in the NHL, but the Edmonton Oilers have only made the postseason once in his four seasons on the team. McDavid is optimistic that a shakeup this offseason will help Edmonton get back to the playoffs.

Antti Niemi is the latest NHLer to head across the pond to play in the KHL. Niemi has bounced around the league for the last 11 seasons, spending time on six different teams. He was the starting goaltender for the Chicago Blackhawks during their run to the Stanley Cup in 2009-10, but he has been a back-up for the last two seasons. He will join Helsinki based Jokerit.

Last month, there were rumors that Pavel Datsyuk was considering a return to the Detroit Red Wings. Those rumors did not bear fruit as Datsyuk signed a one-year deal with his hometown team on Wednesday.
