Buriram United arrive at the first leg of the ASEAN Club Championship final holding a long record of domestic and regional success yet insist their appetite for trophies remains undiminished. On Wednesday they meet Selangor in the opener of the two-legged 2025-26 Shopee Cup final, with their opponents seeking to end a decade-long title drought.

The club’s recent haul is extensive: five consecutive Thai League 1 titles, 11 championships in 15 seasons since 2011, seven FA Cups, eight League Cups and six domestic trebles. Buriram also made their continental debut in 2012 and reached the quarterfinals of the AFC Champions League Elite the following season, a stage they have matched over the past two seasons.

Last season’s return of the ASEAN Club Championship after a 20-year hiatus saw Buriram claim the regional crown, and they have continued to collect silverware in 2025-26. The team has already secured the league title for 2025-26 and beat Ayutthaya United 5-0 in the FA Cup semifinals to advance to that final.

Coach Mark Jackson said his players would not grow complacent despite their achievements, stressing the club’s desire to retain the regional title. “Just because we have won trophies before does not mean we are less hungry. There will be no complacency from our side,” Jackson said, adding it was his first involvement in a two-legged final but noting the squad’s experience with such ties this season. “We will come here looking to play our game, execute our game plan and return to Buriram with a positive result.”

Captain Kenny Dougall underlined the internal expectations at a club with Buriram’s history, noting his own rapid accumulation of silverware since joining in early 2024. “There is always a sense of expectation at clubs with a history of success,” the 33-year-old said. Dougall also recalled the teams’ opening-round 1-1 draw earlier in the campaign — a match played under previous coach Osmar Loss in which Selangor’s Chrigor, formerly on Buriram’s books, scored — but said much has changed since then as Buriram close the season with two Shopee Cup final matches and an FA Cup final remaining.
