Washington State Cougars at Oregon State Beavers Betting Preview

In this Saturday Pac-12 game, Washington State is projected as the heavy favorite and is currently giving up 16 points. If they are wanting to take the moneyline, gamblers would currently have to lay down $1,000 in order to net $100 back on the Cougars (-1000). The Beavers are getting +625 moneyline odds. Vegas has determined the over/under (O/U) to be 61.5 points. Should the underdog gets ahead early, it will likely create a nice betting opportunity in-game.

The game’s total has shifted down after opening at 62.5. The original line has remained consistent.

The Cougars have gained 1.0 unit so far and are 5-0 against the spread (ATS). The team’s posted an Over-Under mark of 3-1. The Beavers have lost 1.0 unit this season. The team is 2-3 ATS and owns an O/U record of 4-1.

The Cougars are 4-1 straight up (SU), including 1-1 SU against Pac-12 opponents. The Beavers are 1-4 SU overall and are also 0-2 SU in conference play.

When these two schools met last year, Washington State won easily 52-23.

The Cougars enter after a 28-24 victory over Utah last week. Gardner Minshew II completed only 31 passes on 56 attempts for 445 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Kyle Sweet (six receptions, 59 yards) and Dezmon Patmon (five catches, 112 yards, one TD) handled the receiving duties in the win.

A week ago, Arizona State took care of this Oregon State team by a score of 52-24. Conor Blount completed 14-of-23 passes for 145 yards and one touchdown. Jermar Jefferson (254 rushing yards on 31 attempts, two TDs) and Kase Rogers (27 yards on 11 carries) spearheaded the running game while Timmy Hernandez (seven receptions, 61 yards) and Kolby Taylor (two catches, 16 yards) led the receiving attack in the loss.

Washington State’s run the ball on 26.8 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Oregon State has an overall rush percentage of 57.9 percent. The Cougars have rushed for 66 yards per game (including 46 per game versus Pac-12 opponents) and have 10 touchdowns on the ground this year. The Beavers are putting up 199 rushing yards per game (179 in conference) and have 12 total rush TDs.

If 2018 numbers can translate to this game, then it seems like the Cougars may have the more disruptive lines up front, as their offensive line has yielded just 44 sacks while the D-line logged 37 sacks. The Beavers O-line has given up 18 sacks and their defense has logged only 14 sacks.

The Cougars offensive scheme has averaged an astonishing 410 yards in the air overall (395 per game versus conference opposition) and has 15 passing TDs so far. The Beavers have put up 246 pass yards per outing (143.0 against Pac-12 competition) and have eight total pass scores.

On the defensive side of the ball, Washington State seems to have the upper hand in both facets. The team has allowed 121 rush yards and 151 pass yards per game. The Oregon State D has given up 240.2 yards per game to opposing passers and 303.4 yards per game on the ground. The Cougars are allowing an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of just 3.66 to opposing QBs, while the Beavers have given up an 8.19 ANY/A.

Offensively, Minshew II has already amassed 1,648 passing yards this year, and has connected on 148-of-221 attempts with 11 scores through the air and four interceptions. He’s got a 7.36 adjusted net yards per pass attempt, including 7.60 over the last two games.

Conor Blount has connected on 53-of-84 passes for 715 yards, five TDs and one INT for Oregon State. His ANY/A sits at 6.97 for the year and 5.73 across his last two outings.
