Andrew Luck’s surprise retirement reverberated around the NFL over the last couple of days, with plenty of takes out there, most of them sane and sincere.
Of course, that doesn’t count for all of them.
As news broke during the Indianapolis Colts preseason game against the Chicago Bears at Lucas Oil Stadium, the fans, some of them at least, booed the quarterback who sacrificed his body for their team for the last seven years. It was an ugly moment and one that did not go without comment across the rest of the league.
Luck’s peers, specifically, were affected by it. Green Bay Packers quarterback AAron Rodgers, a man that has dealt with multiple injuries himself, had plenty to say.
“Well, the surprise was obviously the first emotion,” Rodgers told Mad Dog Sports Radio. “He (Luck) is a young player, he’s had a really, really good career. But I think the second is a little disgust, maybe, at the way that it was handled. Him getting booed, the word leaking out the way that it did, I thought that was a little disgusting because here’s a guy who’s making a quality of life decision. And he’s given a lot to the game, although he’s not a 15-year vet, but he’s put himself through a ton just to get back on the field.”

Hopefully the fans that booed Luck regret it today, as the QB that was on his way to a Hall of Fame career, is receiving nothing but support from his fellow quarterbacks.
“It is his (Luck’s) life,” New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said. “Everyone has the right to choose what he wants to do. He had a great career, and he was a great player. Everybody wishes they could be healthy all the time. It is a contact sport, and he’s certainly had his fair share of injuries, so guys retire at different times. Some at the end of the season, and I have seen a lot of guys retire before the season gets going and this is just one of those examples.”
