Dodgers’ Seager Injured, Futures Game Shortened and More

Bad news times two for the Dodgers on Tuesday night: First they lost both games of a frustrating two-game series with the crosstown Angels, and in the ninth inning, they lost star shortstop Corey Seager to an strained hamstring. Seager was once a rising star; this year’s rising stars game will have only seven innings instead of nine, thanks to a couple of rule changes Major League Baseball has instituted. Elsewhere, in Boston, David Ortiz is progressing after he was shot Sunday night, and Andrew Benintendi and manager Alex Cora were ejected Wednesday night.

Tough break for the Dodgers and Seager, who missed almost all of last season and was just getting hot after an early-season slump this year.

It’s not a surprise to see MLB experiment with shortened games; might we see that for the actual All-Star game in the future?

Great news from the Red Sox, who say David Ortiz is up and walking after his second surgery following his scary shooting Sunday.

Meanwhile, on the field with the Red Sox, noted controversial umpire Angel Hernandez ejected outfielder Andrew Benintendi and manager Alex Cora on Tuesday night.

MLB suspended Josh Donaldson one game for his role in a silly benches-clearing incident Monday night. Pirates pitcher Joe Musgrove was not suspended.
