Major League Baseball’s top social-media moment from Tuesday? It had to be Hunter Pence’s inside-the-park home run, which is supposed to be the most exciting play in baseball but in this case was just one of the strangest. But there were plenty of other candidates. There was a walk-off from an Indians rookie, some more Boston support for Big Papi and the newest New York superstar, Mets slugger Pete Alonso.

Contents
  • Hunter Pence could have circled the bases twice on this play. The most casual inside-the-parker you’ll ever see.
  • The Indians’ Oscar Mercado is becoming a surprise star. He was a good prospect, though not nearly on the level of Vladimir Guerrero Jr., but he’s showing he has what it takes.
  • Jackie Bradley Jr. was teammates with David Ortiz at the end of Ortiz’s career and is glad to hear, like the rest of us, that Big Papi’s condition is improving.
  • The Mets’ polar bear, Pete Alonso, is a star in New York already. So he had to hit a ridiculous home run in his first Subway Series (after doing a Bleacher Report video riding the subway, of course).
  • Finally, stay weird, Kiké Hernandez.

Glad to know @davidortiz was up and walking around today! Keep on pushing! You have so much love and support. Now get back stronger so I can bear hug you my brother 💯 https://t.co/cGW0pittsx

The Mets’ polar bear, Pete Alonso, is a star in New York already. So he had to hit a ridiculous home run in his first Subway Series (after doing a Bleacher Report video riding the subway, of course).

Pete Alonso hopped on the subway and played truth or dare, sported a gnarly New York accent, and unveiled a big Tim Tebow secret.

Oh, and there’s a surprise ending. 🤗🐻

It’s only June and the rookie’s already got 22 HRs
