EPL Fantasy: Recapping Week 5

Manchester City continued its dominance with a fifth straight win to open the season over the weekend, with Kevin De Bruyne leading the way once again from his midfield position. De Bruyne’s consistent production is among the biggest reasons why Manchester City has opened the season with five straight wins so it’s no surprise to see him on this list once again. Here is a look at the top individual EPL fantasy performances by position from this past weekend.

GK: Eldin Jakupovic, Hull City

Jakupovic was under siege from the outset in Hull City’s 4-1 loss to Arsenal, but he still registered the best fantasy score among Premier League goalkeepers based on his six saves. Jakupovic has been a busy goalkeeper early on for Hull City this season and the high volume of saves he made last week was enough for him to earn top honors at his position in a loss. It’s not often that Hull City makes an appearance on our EPL fantasy recap, but this was one of those spots. On the year, they are currently in 11th place in the standings table and have allowed seven goals in six games.

Honorable Mention: Fraser Forster, Southampton; Ron-Robert Zieler, Leicester; Claudio Bravo, Manchester City

D: Christian Fuchs, Leicester City

Leicester City recorded its most convincing win of the season so far with a 3-0 result versus Burnley. Fuchs certainly did his part with an assist and a shot at the offensive end while more than holding his own at the defensive end of the pitch. Leicester City has shown signs of life with wins in two of its last three games and Fuchs has been one of their bright spots early on. Leicester City has obviously fallen off from their form of last season when they were unstoppable. They have allowed seven goals through five games this season. Only seven teams have allowed more than that mark.

Honorable Mention: Juan Zuniga, Watford; Seamus Coleman, Everton; Dejan Lovren, Liverpool

M: Nacer Chadli, West Brom

West Brom registered its first victory in four games and it was a convincing one, taking down West Ham United by a 4-1 score. Chadli was undoubtedly their best player, opening the scoring on a penalty kick in the eighth minute and then adding another goal in the 56th minute. Chadli also assisted on the other two West Brom goals to finish with four points as the top Premier League fantasy performer of the week regardless of position.

M: Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester City

Manchester City remained alone atop the Premier League table thanks to a 4-0 win over Bournemouth. De Bruyne was once again the club’s best player and manager Pep Guardiola complimented him after the game when he essentially called him the second-best player he has ever managed behind Lionel Messi. De Bruyne finished that game with a goal, an assist and four shots, which was more than enough to earn a spot on this list as one of the top fantasy midfielders from this past weekend. Manchester City continues to be a juggernaut in terms of EPL fantasy. They have now scored 15 goals in five games so far. That’s by far the best number in the EPL.

Honorable Mention: Andros Townsend, Crystal Palace; Theo Walcott, Arsenal; Raheem Sterling, Manchester City

F: Islam Slimani, Leicester City

With Jamie Vardy limited to an assist and Riyad Mahrez held off the scoresheet, it was Slimani who stepped up as Leicester City’s top fantasy forward this past weekend. Slimani opened the scoring in first half injury time and then added another goal in the 48th minute to put his side ahead by two on the way to a 3-0 win. Leicester City has tallied seven goal through five games so far this season.

F: Romelu Lukaku, Everton

Everton extended its undefeated streak to five games to open the season with a 3-1 win over Middlesbrough. Lukaku played a starring role in the victory with a goal and an assist to round out the list of the top fantasy performers in EPL fantasy from this past weekend.

Honorable Mention: Kelechi Iheanacho, Manchester City; Salomon Rondon, West Brom;Harry Kane, Tottenham
