Tiger Drops Out of Top 50 in the World

Tiger Woods is in the field this week for this event at Torrey Pines but you won’t see Woods among the favorites to win. Tiger shot an 82 last Friday as the Waste Management Phoenix Open and missed the cut. He is now ranked 56th in the latest World Rankings. Tiger has not finished in the top 20 in any of his last nine events. Tiger has owned Torrey Pines in his career with seven victories in this event and another one at the 2008 U.S. Open but it is hard to see Tiger contending this week based on how he is playing.

Dustin Johnson Returns

The attention on Tiger is always great but this week he will have to share the media spotlight with Dustin Johnson who is making his return to the PGA Tour. Johnson has not played for six months as he took a leave of absence to deal with “personal challenges.” Johnson said he has been working hard with doctors and a life coach to get his life straightened out.

“It was time to grow up,” he said. “I’m feeling good. I can’t go out and say ‘I’m going to win this tournament’, but I just want to compete and put myself in position to have a chance.”

PGA Picks

I will go with Jimmy Walker at odds of 15-1 and for my longshots I will take Marc Leishman at odds of 38-1 and Gary Woodland at odds of 40-1.
