Friday Afternoon Quarterback: NFL Week 14 Spread Picks and Locks

Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

Here’s what happens with my Thursday Night Football picks. I either nail the score exactly, or I’m on another continent. Once again I open the weekend down a game, but have 15 more to NFL picks to choose from to pull out of it.

Here’s how I saw the TNF match up between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans.

It was looking good for a while. The Jaguars even got a safety which is usually a guaranteed sign of victory. Instead, Mike Vrabel kept his his team together and their playoff hopes alive and Derrick Henry single-handedly has already delivered an opening fantasy football playoffs victory in every league in the country.

Here are your Friday Afternoon Quarterback picks for Week 14 of the NFL season:

Baltimore Ravens at Kansas City Chiefs (-6.5, O/U: 51)

The Ravens’ quarterback job is now officially Lamar Jackson’s to lose and lose he will when Baltimore’s NCAA Division II offense can’t score 40 with the Chiefs. Chiefs 40, Ravens 24

Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans (-5, O/U: 50)

This is a trap game if ever there was one. The Texans are going for their 10th win in a row and Andrew Luck just had one of the worst games of his career. You couldn’t write the script any clearer. Colts 24, Texans 20

Carolina Panthers at Cleveland Browns (+1.5, O/U: 47.5)

The Panthers have nearly swooned themselves out of the NFC Wild Card race and Ron Rivera out of a job. Gregg Williams is here to help just in time. Panthers 31, Browns 17

Atlanta Falcons at Green Bay Packers (-4, O/U: 50.5)

Somewhere in Wisconsin last Sunday night, a Golden Corral men’s room cleaner hugged his wife and wept. Packers 27, Falcons 17

New Orleans Saints at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+9.5, O/U: 55)

This line has jumped up another +1.5 since Wednesday. Big road favorites are a disaster waiting to happen and the Buccaneers have already claimed the Saints’ scalp once this season. Saints 31, Buccaneers 27

New York Jets at Buffalo Bills (-3.5, O/U: 38.5)

Oh my God. I’m about to pick the Bills. Bills 19, Jets 16

New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins (+7.5, O/U: 47)

Ryan Tannehill’s late-season return is the lost story of this NFL season. He’s playing exceptionally well, and here’s a little fun fact for you — the Patriots are 1-4 against the Dolphins over the last five years when they play in Miami. Dolphins 26, Patriots 23

New York Giants at Washington Redskins (+3.5, O/U: 41)

Back in the 1987 strike season, the Redskins were so desperate to sign a quarterback they struck a deal with the State of Tennessee to spring Tony Robinson from prison (he was busted in a cocaine sting) so he could suit up for them while the actual players were in the picket line. I’m just saying, Jay Gruden — you  have options. Giants 30, Redskins 16

Denver Broncos at San Francisco 49ers (+3.5, O/U: 45.5)

Nick Mullens will be the best Pep Boys Muffler Master Technician that ever played in the NFL. Broncos 23, 49ers 16

Cincinnati Bengals at Los Angeles Chargers (-14, O/U: 47.5)

Hue Jackson continues to work the magic with the Bengals that could lead to a Top 10 draft pick. I’m sure that was the plan all along. Chargers 34, Bengals 13

Detroit Lions at Arizona Cardinals (+3, O/U: 40.5)

Hard to believe a guy named Jim Bob Cooter doesn’t have the strategic savvy to run a proper NFL offense instead of, say, a bait stand at a rock quarry that keeps getting busted for selling hot dogs without a food permit. Lions 20, Cardinals 17

Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys (-3, O/U: 44)

It would be just like the Dallas Cowboys and Jason Garrett to lose this game when the entire month of December is lining up for them perfectly. I’m going to regret this. Cowboys 26, Eagles 23

Pittsburgh Steelers at Oakland Raiders (+9.5, O/U: 51)

Here’s another monster road favorite and if Jon Gruden wasn’t on the other sideline, I’d almost feel crazy to take it. Steelers 45, Raiders 20

Los Angeles Rams at Chicago Bears (+2.5, O/U: 51.5)

It’s a match up between two of the best young playcallers (Sean McVay and Matt Nagy) and most dominant defensive players (Aaron Donald and Khalil Mack) of their generation. For some reason I don’t think Jared Goff and Mitchell Trubisky are as excited about that second part as the rest of us. Rams 37, Bears 23

Monday Night

Minnesota Vikings at Seattle Seahawks (-3, O/U: 45.5)

This the first quarterback duel in history that could be settled by quoting Bible scripture. Seahawks 24, Vikings 20
