Furkan Korkmaz of Turkey allegedly was assaulted by Georgian team members

The Georgian national team and national police allegedly abused player Furkan Korkmaz after he was dismissed from a match during the EuroBasket 2022 competition, according to the Turkish Basketball Federation. If the Turkish federation does not get security video of the alleged event, it will request a review and perhaps withdraw from the competition.

In Georgia’s Tbilisi, the game was played on Sunday at the Tbilisi Arena. Korkmaz, a guard with the Philadelphia 76ers, was removed from the game and given two technical fouls for getting in the face of Georgian player Duda Sanadze prior to the alleged confrontation. Omer Onan, the vice-president of the Turkish federation and a former member of the squad, allegedly made a statement outlining the details of the attack and asserting that Georgian national police were engaged, according to Eurohoops.net, the media partner of the EuroLeague Basketball. According to the statement, Furkan Korkmaz was attacked jointly by Georgian athletes and national police.
