Harry Kane’s stoppage-time strike proved insufficient as Bayern Munich drew 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their Champions League semifinal, with PSG advancing 6-5 on aggregate, the report says.
Kane’s extra-time-avoiding effort was his 14th of the competition this season, leaving him one goal behind Kylian Mbappé’s 15, per the report. With Bayern’s campaign ended, the 14-goal return means Kane will fall short of the French forward in the season’s scoring chart, the report adds.
The report says Kane had opened the scoring in the first leg at the Parc des Princes from the penalty spot, having also contributed goals across the knockout rounds — including strikes in both legs of the quarterfinal against Real Madrid and in the round-of-16 and subsequent knockout ties.
With his latest strike, Kane joined an exclusive group by scoring in his sixth consecutive Champions League knockout-stage appearance; only Cristiano Ronaldo had previously achieved that sequence, the report says, noting Ronaldo did so between April 2012 and April 2013.
It has nevertheless been a prolific season for Kane at club level, the report says, stating he registered his 55th goal in all competitions on Wednesday to equal a mark set by Robert Lewandowski in the 2019-20 campaign. The report also notes Kane’s 33 Bundesliga goals leave him 15 clear of his nearest rival with two matchdays remaining.
Per the report, PSG’s aggregate win books their place in the final, where they will face Arsenal in Budapest, while Bayern’s European season has concluded.
