Houston Rockets at Brooklyn Nets ATS Prediction

The Rockets were not able to cover as 4.5-point favorites in their 104-85 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers in their last game. The combined points for the game (189) were well under the projected point total of 223.5. Making free throws was one of Portland’s biggest strengths. They were 20-23 (87.0 percent), while the Rockets were just 13-23 (56.5 percent). Houston’s Clint Capela had a solid game, finishing with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

In the Nets’ previous matchup, they edged the Detroit Pistons, 120-119, but failed to cover as 2-point favorites. The game’s total points (239) came in well over the O/U total of 217. The Nets, who came into the game averaging an offensive rebounding percentage of 22.6, had a great mark of 30.5 and had a turnover percentage of 12.3 (better than their season average of 15.0). With 19 points, six rebounds and six assists, Brooklyn’s Caris LeVert had a good outing.

The Rockets won both matchups against the Nets last season. In the most recent matchup, Houston won 123-113. Houston’s free throw rate was their biggest advantage over Brooklyn. The Rockets had a rate of 0.210, while the Nets posted a mark of 0.176.

Houston comes into the contest with records of 1-5 straight up (SU) and 1-5 against the spread (ATS). Of the Rockets’ six games, four have gone over the total.

Meanwhile, Brooklyn owns records of 3-5 SU and 4-4 ATS. It’s tough to find a trend for Nets games in regards to the total, as there has been an even split between games finishing over and under.

It might be a tough matchup for Brooklyn on the offensive glass. Since last season, the Nets rank 22nd in offensive rebounding percentage (21.2 percent), while Houston ranks fourth in defensive rebounding percentage (79.7 percent). Furthermore, the third-ranked offense of the Rockets (offensive efficiency of 111.5) will square off against the 25th-ranked defense of the Nets (defensive efficiency of 109.1).
