Indy Car picks:   The Verizon IndyCar Series returned to the Pocono Raceway last year for the first time since 1989 with the running of the Pocono IndyCar 400 as Scott Dixon took the checkers and the event was so successful that leaders agreed to extend this year’s race to 500 miles.   The Pocono IndyCar 500 will run on Sunday with coverage on NBCSN starting at noon ET.

Pocono Raceway

The Pocono Raceway is a 2.5 mile asphalt triangle configuration track with 3 turns that bank at 14 degrees on turn 1, 8 degrees on turn 2, and 6 degrees on turn 3.  It opened in 1971 and has a seating capacity of 76,812.

Last Year

Dixon was the winner after starting all the way back in the 17th position.  Rounding out the top 10 in order of finish were Charlie Kimball, Dario Franchitti, Will Power, Josef Newgarden, Simon Pagenaud, Justin Wilson, Helio Castroneves, Ed Carpenter, and Marco Andretti.

Indy Car Standings Leaders

Will Power is in first place in the IndyCar standings with 405 points with 2 wins, 3 2nd place finishes, and a 3rd place finish.

Helio Castroneves is in 2nd place with 366 points with 1 win, 1 2nd place finish and 2 3rd place finishes.

Ryan Hunter Reay is in 3rd place with 364 points with 2 wins, 2 2nd place finishes and 5 races in which he finished 16th or worse.

Rounding out the top ten in the standings are Simon Pagenaud, Juan Pablo Montoya, Marco Andretti, Carlos Munoz, Sebastien Bourdais, Scott Dixon, and James Hinchcliffe.

The Pick

Will Power is in excellent form and with his good run at Pocono last year he should be confident.  Power is the call!
