Jets Ready To Hire Dan Quinn as Head Coach

The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry and such is the case for the New York Jets, who were reportedly ready to hire Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn on the spot if his team lost Saturday night to the Carolina Panthers. Unfortunately for the Jets, they’ll have to wait at least a week (probably longer), before announcing and finalizing the deal with their next head coach.

Quinn can’t be offered any job until the Seahawks’ season is over. Saturday night Seattle punched its ticket to the NFC Championship game with a 31-17 win over the Panthers.

The Jets have already hired a new General Manager, former Houston Texans Director of College Scouting Mike Macagnan, and kept him available Saturday in case Quinn suddenly became available.

According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Quinn could receive multiple offers from teams with head coaching openings. Quinn grew up in Morristown, New Jersey and was a Jets assistant from 2007-08.

The Jets have been without a head coach since Black Monday when they sent Rex Ryan and his staff packing, along with GM John Idzik after a 4-12 season. The Jets may have the worst roster in the NFL after Idzik’s tenure so any coach has a long road ahead to get the other team from New York into any kind of playoff contention. It doesn’t help that the Jets play in the same division with the New England Patirots, an improved Miami Dolphins and a Buffalo Bills squad with one of the best defenses in the NFL and coached by Ryan, who might want to put a few beat-downs on the team that fired him.
