Jones vs St Preux Odds – UFC 197 is Saturday

Jones vs St Preux Odds

Jones vs St Preux Odds – The UFC 197 comes to us thie Saturday, April 23rd from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada with a card headlined by the return of former Light Heavyweight world champion Jon Jones.

Contrary to Dana White’s promise, Jones is not fighting for the UFC Light Heavyweight title in this, his return fight. That was the fight that was supposed to happen, but current champion Daniel Cormier pulled out, and St. Preux stepped in on short notice to save the show. St. Preux is a tough fighter who has put together a strong 7-2 record in the UFC’s octagon, enough to warrant making the match for an “interim” belt, but there is nothing interim about Jones.

Cormier won the vacant title because Jones was stripped of it, and until Jones has a chance to win “his” belt back, there will not be closure in the division. Jones will be a big favorite going in there against St Preux. The expectation is that Jones will win, and then the UFC will have a interim vs full title bout for Cormier vs Jones 2.

Now, could St. Preux be the spoiler? St. Preux is a rugged fighter who was in the media talking about how Jones’ layoff could give him “a little bit of an advantage”. Jones is also reported to have weighed in at 240 lbs as he dives into a new work out and conditioning regimen, so perhaps making the 205 lb weight limit will be an issue for Jones. If St Preux breaks through with the win, the UFC would have to do a match between Cormier and St. Preux, but that would be a box-office worst case scenario for White and company. For Jones to fail to make weight and win anyway would deprive them of the “interim” title ploy, but really all they care about is getting Jones back into the rotation at this point. Jones vs St Preux Odds have Jones a better than 5 to 1 favorite as we are a few  days away from the fight.

Cormier is a fine 17-1 overall but that one loss to Jones hangs over his every move. Until he fights and beats Jones, no one really looks at his championship as unblemished. Cormier is now 37 years old, and his chances against Jones may rank up there with St. Preux’ when the two finally meet. If St. Preux can be Jones, Cormier would probably enter that fight with a better chance to win.
