Louisville gets defeated by Cornell field hockey, 2-0

On Sunday, October 23, the Cornell field hockey team defeated Louisville by a score of 2-0. Julia Darmo and Claire Jones scored goals to give the Big Red the lead. The victory is the largest upset in program history with the highest-ranked opponent victory in Cornell field hockey’s 50-year history.

Four minutes into the game, Cornell scored when Darmo converted on a straight penalty corner feed from Jones. She then dribbled towards the shooting arc and unleashed a shot into the goal. In the opening period of play, the Big Red only allowed Louisville to attempt one shot.

In the second quarter, as Louisville gained momentum, Cornell switched to a defensive strategy. In comparison to Cornell’s 0 shots throughout the quarter, the Cardinals had five. Aerin Park, a senior goalie, made four saves to keep Louisville’s offense scoreless despite the Cardinals’ four chances on goal. With just 3:22 left in the fourth, Jones deflected in Ramsey’s penalty corner attempt to give the Big Red the victory.
