Lucha Underground S1E5 Recap: Boyle Heights Street Fight

Photo from El Rey Network

The last episode of Lucha Underground featured a returning Sexy Star, who was victorious after being out of action from a chair attack by Chavo Guerrero. We also saw the debut of King Cuerno who lost to Drago, Fenix vs. Pentagon Jr. in a great singles bout, and Big Ryck and his gang taking out Johnny Mundo to end the main event match.

This recap is part of a series that is recapping the entirety of Lucha Underground. If you would like to catch up on previous recaps, click here for the recap of the last episode. Currently, Lucha Underground airs Wednesdays on El Rey Network.

Opening Segment
Konnan and Dario Cueto are talking in Cueto’s office about Prince Puma getting attacked from behind last week by Cisco and Cortez Castro. Konnan suggests that to settle it, Prince Puma has a Boyle Heights Street Fight tonight, against Big Ryck, and Cueto likes the idea enough to make the match official.

Mil Muertes (w/Catrina) vs. Drago
Drago debuted two weeks ago in a triple threat match against Pentagon Jr. and Fenix, who were also debuting at the time. Last week, Drago picked up a victory against the debuting King Cuerno, demonstrating his impressive arsenal of moves. Mil Muertes will be no easy feat, however, as he has not lost a match since his debut.

During the match, King Cuerno, “The Hunter,” is seen from the balcony, seemingly scouting out Drago for revenge.

After hitting a spear on a mid-air Drago, Mil Muertes hits the Flatliner for the win, followed by Catrina licking a downed Drago. Winner: Mil Muertes

King Cuerno comes down from his perch and approaches the downed Drago in the ring, hitting him with an impressive modified Michinoku Driver.

Son of Havoc (w/Ivelisse) vs. Mascarita Sagrada
Son of Havoc was on the first two episodes of Lucha Underground. In his first match, he defeated Sexy Star, then he tagged with Ivelisse to take on, and lose to, Chavo Guerrero and Sexy Star the following week. Mascarita Sagrada debuted two weeks ago, defeating the also debuting El Mariachi Loco.

Son of Havoc has faced some unusual opponents: first a woman (Sexy Star), and now a little person (Mascarita Sagrada). Lucha Underground does a great job at making these unusual pairings an even fight, as opposed to the normal sized man being the clear winner.

During the match, there is a woman who appears on the stairs to scout the match, and then leaves without us figuring out who she is.

Son of Havoc’s arrogance got the better of him, and Mascarita Sagrada delivers the headscissors roll-up for the win. Winner: Mascarita Sagrada

Sexy Star vs. Chavo Guerrero
Chavo Guerrero and Sexy Star teamed up a few weeks ago to take on Son of Havoc and Ivelisse, and came out victorious. Later that same night, Chavo Guerrero turned heel and hit half the roster with a chair, including Sexy Star. This is the first we have seen Chavo Guerrero in action since he explained his actions with an interview with Vampiro, and Sexy Star looks to get some revenge.

During the match, Sexy Star grabs a chair to attack Chavo Guerrero, and low blows the referee out of the way to end the match. Pentagon Jr. comes out and takes the chair from Sexy Star, for reasons unknown, and Fenix evens the odds and saves Sexy Star. Winner (via disqualification): Chavo Guerrero

Prince Puma vs. Big Ryck (w/Cisco & Cortez Castro) – Boyle Heights Street Fight
This match changes up the rules. There are no count-outs, no disqualifications, and everything is legal in the match. This will benefit Big Ryck, since he has two allies at his side in Cisco and Cortez Castro, even though Prince Puma was the one that requested the match.

As soon as Prince Puma gets some offense in, Cisco and Castro interfere immediately. Big Ryck decides to sit down and let Castro and Cisco do the work, yet Puma somehow gets a lot of offense in.

Johnny Mundo comes to save Prince Puma, but accidentally hits him with a chair, leading to Big Ryck slamming Puma through a table for the win, ending this episode of Lucha Underground. Winner: Big Ryck
