Lucha Underground S1E7 Recap: Money in the Bank

Photo from El Rey Network

Last week’s episode of Lucha Underground featured a debuting Pimpinela Escarlata, Mil Muertes keeping his impressive undefeated streak, and development in the feuds of Drago/King Cuerno and Sexy Star & Fenix/Chavo Guerrero & Pentagon Jr..

Tonight, Prince Puma, Big Ryck, and Johnny Mundo will compete in a triple threat ladder match for a briefcase of $100,000.

This recap is part of a series that is recapping the entirety of Lucha Underground. If you would like to catch up on previous recaps, click here for the recap of the last episode. Currently, Lucha Underground airs Wednesdays on El Rey Network, and is now available on iTunes.

King Cuerno vs. Super Fly
Over the past few weeks, King Cuerno has been in a feud with Drago after losing to him in his Lucha Underground debut. This match is the debut of Super Fly, who we don’t know much about, but he is giving a great first impression.

During the match, Drago is perched at the top of the stands, scouting King Cuerno, just as Cuerno scouted Drago a few weeks ago.

After hitting a modified Michinoku Driver, King Cuerno picks up the win. Winner: King Cuerno

Video Package
We get a little history on Pentagon Jr., who learned how to fight from some of the best fighters in Japan. He has “zero fear,” which has led to his catchphrase of sorts, “Cero Miedo.”

Chavo Guerrero (w/Pentagon Jr.) vs. Fenix (w/Sexy Star)
These two pairs have been feuding for a few weeks now, and it all started with Chavo Guerrero attacking half of the roster with a chair (including Sexy Star) several weeks ago.

What is very intriguing about Chavo Guerrero is that even though he has been wrestling for probably two decades now, he seems like a mid-card talent every time he is in the ring. He is a very talented in-ring performer, but for some reason I can’t see him in the main event.

Sexy Star tries to warn the referee of Pentagon Jr.’s interference, but it caused the referee to be distracted enough for Pentagon Jr. to actually help Chavo Guerrero win the match. After hitting a frog splash, Chavo Guerrero picks up the victory. Winner: Chavo Guerrero

After the match, Sexy Star warns Chavo Guerrero that Blue Demon Jr., the first person Guerrero turned on, is coming back to Lucha Underground with a vengeance.

Big Ryck vs. Prince Puma vs. Johnny Mundo – Ladder Match for $100,000
On the first night of Lucha Underground, Dario Cueto kicked things off by offering the most impressive fighter of the night $100,000. Johnny Mundo was about to be rewarded with the money, but Big Ryck, Cisco, and Cortez Castro attacked him from behind, and Mundo has been in the hunt for what he believes is rightfully his.

This match has a great chance of being great, considering they gave it half of the show.

It is no surprise that Cisco and Cortez Castro come down to help Big Ryck take on both of his opponents. Cisco is taking out of the equation after Johnny Mundo puts him through two tables outside the ring, then Prince Puma hits the double knees from the top rope to put Cortez Castro through a table.

Johnny Mundo almost has the match won where someone from the crowd wearing a Pentagon Jr. mask attacks him. We don’t know much about him, other than the fact that he seems to be helping Big Ryck.

Johnny Mundo springboards onto the ladder, and knocks both Cisco and Cortez Castro off of another ladder to win his $100,000. Winner: Johnny Mundo

After Mundo won the match, Dario Cueto asks Johnny Mundo to give him his key back that he stole as an “insurance policy.” Cueto enters the ring, demanding that Mundo puts it around his neck, but instead Mundo knocks out Cueto to end this episode of Lucha Underground.
